I agree that Russell has the richest history and best facilities. I lived a little of that history. I was a student at Russell in the early 70’s – when Russell beat Ashland for the first time ever (which was a big deal at the time). And then along came Ivan, who really built the program and lead the teams to both of Russell’s State Titles.

However, I think Rockcastle is the better team in recent years. Ashland played (and lost to) both teams last year and I was at both games. So, I got to see both Russell and Rockcastle play last year. Although Russell went on to win the AA State Title – Rockcastle was the more dominate team last year.

This is a though choice and I see why the vote is close. I voted for Rockcastle because I think our players worry about playing them more than Russell.

I just saw that there are two another threads “winningest teams since 1990” and “winningest teams since 2000”. Rockcastle tops Russell on both lists.

But, both teams have impressive results.

Once again, here is the criteria...

* All level of play - 9th 10th 11th 12th - not sure about Rockcastle's lower levels and I know Russell's coaches aren't concerned about W's & L's but merely view them as a development tool for the varsity program.

* Fan Support - Russell definitely has this in spades...

* Coaches - Ummm...no contest here, Ivan's teams will be playing on Ivan McGlone Field next year after leading the Devils to their second state title and 500th all-time win (of which he has over 250)

* Wins - 500 all-time

* Titles - Russell - 2 Rockcastle - 0

* Facilities - Henry R. Evans Stadium's listed capacity of 5,000 is an estimation that was made for the KHSAA publication.

I think this is really a no-brainer, but then I am a little biased...:D

Im going with Russell. I have seen Rockcastle 1 time so I really cant comment on them. Russell has outstanding facilities. Also 2 titles. Pretty easy pick for me

No contest? Tom Larkey is a heck of a coach. He took over a Rockcastle program that was mediocre, at best, and turned it into a solid, consistent and winning program.

Rockcastle's coaches work hard and they are always well prepared. I have never known Tom Larkey to be outcoached and your comments are condescending and degrading. Ivan McGlone is a legend but I think Tom Larkey is/will be too!

Both are excellent coaches. I dont think it's fair to say no contest but McGlone is certainly more accomplished at this point in his career.

I don't have the numbers but maybe 3wishes or somebody from Rock can give us Coach Larkey's career stats. I think you will be surprised.

I’m told that confession is good for the soul. :D

Coach Larkey has been a Head Coach for 24 years, 25 if you count the 2006 season. His first job was at Laurel County in 1974-1977 as Head Coach. He then was an assistant for other programs such as Cawood, Laurel County until he became the Head Coach in 1985 at Rock.

Overall win/lost record: 216-79. 73%

Overall win/loss record at Rock is: 195-59. 77%

23 total winning seasons out of 24 and 20 in a row.

They should. If they play Rockcastle it is in the playoffs.

Traitor.. JK:D

I choose Russell simply because I believe their facilities are better and it is known statewide that they have Top academics. And Russell has two state titles along with a slew of other awards over the last 30 years.

....

Not sure when Russell became a school, but Rock is only 33 years old.

This alone is enough to withhold my vote from Rockcastle. If Russellville was competitive through the modern era, I'd consider them.

Russell wins this one by a big margin...

Broadening your horizons changes ones perspective.

(BTW, my horizons aren’t the only thing that has broadened over the years.) :D

I'm really suprised this is as close as it is.

Whoever voted for Reidland and Rowan County should turn in their BGP membership card immediately.
