:thumb: That is a nice smallmouth. Don't tell to many about our secret bait.:sssh:

I think that we just have:eek:  At least the "old" ones aren't made anymore. Storm has brought them back in the last couple of years and started to produce them again but jmo they do not run the same as the old/originals. The new ones will still catch fish though.

I don't mind sharing info with friends.(unless they start to catch more fish than I do.)

I still have several of the old style. They do run different from the newer ones and the color scheme isn't the same.

:thumb: There are acouple of colors that are no longer available on the new ones.

I not afraid to try new stuff.,but I still love the old lures.. I still use original Creek Chub Darters that are over 40 years old.. The yellow Darter is still one of my favorite top water lures..

How was the catfishing trip BigBlueFreak?

:thumb: On using the older lures. Another favorite that has always caught fish is the Rebel wee-r series.

You know what you should try?, if you already haven't, is a chatter bait. Booyah makes a good one, kinda like a spinnerbait, looks like a jig, and wobbles like a crankbait. You'd be just the guy to fall in love with them I'd bet!:thumb:

I haven't got to try them out yet but I am looking foward to it. I'll have to pick up a couple. A buddy of mine who makes a lot of the spinnerbaits that I use is working on making a "chatterbait".

The chatterbaits do work pretty good, I was skeptical but I did like them.

They look like something you'd see in an infomercial. ;)

I went to Grayson Lake tailwaters Tuesday. Caught enough crappie and bluegill plus a couple of trout to have a fish fry. Caught them all on minnows in one spot.

Speaking of important and sucsessful fishing trips.......... my 5yr. old great nephew caught his very first fish yesterday evening at a private farm pond. The Monster was a 10" Largemouth Bass!:ylsuper: For all I was concerned it was as good as a world record. I am sure that everyone can relate to a kid catching his 1st fish on his first fishing trip. :thumb:

:thumb: Congrats to the young man!!! I bet that fish has grown every time he tells the story:lol: I am sure it is one he & Dad will always remember. Also a thumbs up to his Pop for caring enough to take him, and hats off to his trusty guide that planned the trip.

He actually hooked a much larger one that ended our day on his Spongebob fishing poll. It nearly yanked the poll out of his hands. He managed to regain control and try reeling to no avail. He said "Daddy you do this!" So I start reeling it in and is fight like mad and I have this craptacular Spongebob pole. I can't give the fish any slack and let him wear himself down for a little while, I can only crank. So I got the fish about 2 feet from the dock and get my first look at it and it is a big Largemouth Bass. It's not very fat, but very long. It darts down and then shoots straight out the water and literally scares the living crap out of my son. It flops down and then tries to shoot under the dock and at this point I can't reel anymore. I just grabbed the line and pulled the line with my hands and got the fish out from under the dock. I get out of the water and its every bit of 14-16 inches long. I went straight for its mouth because we were fishing with tiny hooks for Bluegill and the fish shook its head the little hook just shot out of it's mouth. PLOP right back in the water in went! My son, Oldrambler's great nephew (yeah he really is "old" lol!), is just completely freaked out by this point because the fish was half the size he is. So off he took off up to the house leaving me to carry 4 poles, two tackle boxes, and a bag of trash. But I wouldn't have traded that moment for any in the world. What a blast and now fishing is all talks about! :thumb:

We ended up catching (landing) 5 Bluegill and 2 Largemouth. The bass were just nailing live nightcrawlers. I should have switched to bigger hooks because we missed a lot where the smaller hooks were just too small to set. My wife, who has the attention span of a 3 year old, missed 8 or 9 fish because she was looking at the geese. Oh well.

Free fishing days is this weekend and we are planning on heading to Yatesville Lake Saturday afternoon/evening. Hopefully we will land a few more! I hadn't fished in probably 10 or 11 years. I forgot I was missing. I am hooked (pun intended) again. Already scanning the classifieds for a fishing boat! :D

Great story RedRambler!!!:thumb: and one I am glad you shared. I knew you would be "hooked" it is in your blood. I would be willing to bet that you made a fishing partner for life. What better way could a Dad and son spend an afternoon together than sitting on a clear lake enjoying God's great creation.

Nice job!!!!:thumb:
