Highlands vs. Bowling Green

Featured Replies

Add Hurtt, Ball, Koester, Marchetti ,and rising star Josh Conner, and the Birds are loaded at RB. All of these guys are fast powerful backs. Throw in a big veteran O line and ther you have it , a " true power game". If coach Mueller elected to go primarily run, HHS would be in the states elite when considering running stats. I think that may be a little boring for coach Mueller though. Away playoff games are always a challenge. However HHSs schedule will have them ready for the challenge.
No, you have a mix of speed and power there. I'm not saying they don't have the personnel to successfully have a power running game, because they do. But you have to utilize it!

RTS, there were many reasons why we lost the LexCath game, but in my opinion, the lack of a power game was not one of them. We actually ran the ball pretty well against LexCath. Our biggest problem was picking up their blitzing safety/third linebacker on pass plays and losing considerable yards in sacks. Its tough to make up 8-10 additional yards in two attempts at running the ball.

As MC pointed out, not only is Kramer back, but so are most of the other running backs. We'll miss Schrode who was lightning quick. I wish we'd have done more two back sets last year with Kramer and Schrode both in there. But the addition of Conner makes up somewhat for Schrode's departure.

I don't know LN, when they finally went with power (late in the game) it worked. With a single back set in that game, LC shut it down. I believe if they had established a power running attack much earlier in the game they would have had a better shot of passing the ball. That and the fact that short passes would have been a smarter plan IMO. Of course, that's all hindsight, so.........

I realize they have a lot of great backs, and from what I'm hearing Conner is really going to be something. I was merely pointing out that Kramer was the starting wingback last year, not tailback until an injury did Mike in. ;)

I also still think it's tuff to replace Hudy and Chase. Not saying the Birds can't make it to the carpet this year, just that I think it will be a tough road.

Hoptown has a lot of talent returning as well, and will be strong contenders in the West.

If I had to rank Region 1 right now, my top 3 would be:

1) Bowling Green

2) Tilghman

3) Hoptown

I think Josh Conner will be the best running back the birds have had since Justin Frisk. If not this coming year than the year after. :thumb:

I brought that up about 3 months ago to only be told that the kid will be way too young to seriously compete. Watching him run the ball in a mop-up duty last year in a playoff game as a freshman only to gain about 50 yards on 6 carries. I hope the politics don't kick in the next time he gets the ball that close to the goaline and a backup senior gets the score. Thats one thing i liked about Duffy when he was at Highlands. He played his best players no matter who they were!!!!!!!!:irked:

No way is Tilghman ahead of Hoptown in '06.

I think I saw that same game, and he was amazing!

I don't believe it! I actually agree with one of your posts! There must be something wrong with one of us...

Umm, guys, 25 rushes for 27 yards is not running the ball well. :creepy:

That's not the part I was agreeing with.:D

A Soph RB stepping in to be as good as Frisk was at the Varsity level .You can't be serious ! Conner was good as a fresh , but it's a new game now. Maybe in a year or two . But not now , I'll take Koester or Kramer to be the better backs .

I am saying by the end of his career at Highlands.Josh was the best freshman running back I have seen in the past 10-15 years in nky.:ylsuper: :ylsuper:

But if we could have established a running game, the second part wouldn't have been the problem it was. That and as I said, short passes would have been the thing to do. ;)
