I think a five class system is great!

I think 4 classes for approximately 210 football programs is the right balance. I also think there are too many teams that qualify for playoffs. There are 128 berths in playoff system, which is more than half. About 1/3 of those have .500 or less winning percentages.

I like 5 classes, with the top class being a voluntary super class.

That's an interesting idea. Would it be voluntary regardless of enrollment. That would show who has the cahonas.

How about 3 classes and a 4th class as the voluntary superclass.

I really liked CoachJ's idea (on another thread) of having 6 classes...4 even classes with a small 1A (smallest 16) and a Super 6A (largest 16). His reasoning was that the smallest 16 and the largest 16 are where the biggest discrepancies were... Made since to me...

How can anyone make a positive evaluation of 4, 5 or 6 without seeing what they look like? Travel, etc. Who it helps, Who it hurts, etc. Otherwise, you are making a subjective decision based solely on a number which is about the most indefensible and arbitrary thing you can do leading to the conclusion that the biggest resistance is a resistance to change..

That is a concern I noted on another thread that posted a breakdown of schools by enrollment. As an Ashland fan we ended up with 1 other school about 60 miles away, then a couple 2 hours or more, and all other schools we've competed against now in other classes. The financial aspect and likely loss of fan interest is a major concern.

I say leave it as is. Five classes is too much, and six classes is too diluted and overkill!

 

More classes also brings up the possibility of the playoffs being reduced to only two teams coming out of each district...we simply can't have a proliferation of 0-10 teams making the playoffs because they're in a four-team district. Personally, I like the four-team-per-district format...BGHS won their first 3A Region One title in 1991, the first year that four teams per district went statewide, and they were a #3 seed that year. Under the two team format, they wouldn't have even made the playoffs!

I have always been a 4 class guy but somehow making it where the 4th class = to this proposed super class or whatever those in favor of expanding are wanting to do with the bigger schools.

 

This would allow for more teams in the bottom 3 classes, something I think is needed. The state is searching for teams to begin with to feel voids within the state and I believe it would 1) Make getting into the playoffs a little prideful (I realize to some it is a big deal, but for many there are teams that could literally forfeit the entire season and be in the playoffs) and 2) Possibly cut down on the driving distance for a lot of teams.

I like 6, but with all the consolidation talk of several places across the state it would be interesting to see how things pan out.

At first glance it looks good that most people want 4 classes. A deeper look shows that many more people want an increase in the number of classes. IMO 4 classes is the way to go. This all started over X and T, and all of Kentucky football shouldn't be changed just because of two private powerhouses right now. There are plenty of public powerhouses in other classes. Powerhouses change over time and we shouldn't change the law because of now. It will ruin it for the future.

I would think that the 5 class system would work, being a Raceland (class A) fan I wonder if it would change district alignments. The other teams in this district besides fairview are Paris, LCA, Nicholas,Berea and Bath. 4 of those are 1.5 to 2hr or longer drive.

( I'll keep in mind a down year to them is a year without a state championsip title.)Look at the stats of how many years we've had four classes, then see how many titles have been won by the Big 3. There is no comparison between the dominance of X and T and any other class year in and out. They are the reason we have four classes instead of three. I think it's gonna keep going untill we have 10 classes and those three are in there own figuratively, even though they already are.:lol:

Good point. No matter how many classes you have, whoever is in their class will say that it's not fair. It will keep escalading until only those 3 are in a class. So why don't we just skip all the trouble and let them have their own class.
