You haven't been looking very hard. Unequipped officers were targeted with bottles and bricks early on in Ferguson. Hopefully no officers have to go out there without proper equipment now...

There were 150 officers in riot gear present on August 10th, the first day of the protests. They were ready for protests and potential riots from the get go.

You do realize officers are allowed to use whatever force is necessary to ensure the public safety first and theirs second.

 

I'm not advocating firing into a crowd unless they are using methods that are possibly lethal. This would include throwing bricks, hammers, Molotov Cocktails, etc. Then, they need to be very sure of who they are shooting.

According to him that included opening fire on bottle throwers. I'm not okay with that. I feel as though lethal force should only be used against a crowd as an absolute last resort. I day this as much for the officer's well being as I do for the protesters. If you think the current environment is toxic against the police now what do you think it would be like if they open fire on a crowd of protesters that were not firing on them? It would be much worse than one nut killing 2 officers in New York.

And I've got no problem with your stance. I was responding specifically to plantmanky's stance which I see as completely inappropriate and borderline lunacy.

Ok, so after 2 1/2 pages we clarified one person's stance on how they would deal with unruly protestors, let's move on to discussing the topic at hand.

And what about the officers that didn't have riot gear? Because it happened. There were several who were targeted with bottles and bricks from day 1, because they were not wearing riot gear.

Every Officer in all Departments aren't issued Riot Gear either.
