Ballard 92 Holmes 80

Final from KOB

Overrated IMO in the state poll. I think they are somewhere in the 20-25th ranking area.

They still could knock off NCC or CovCath though in the 9th.

Ballard though is a legit team. They had em down after 1st half.

This sets up a heck of game between Ballard and Hoptown tomorrow. They scrimmaged preseason and Ballard won by 1.

Just me or is it hard to get a good read on Holmes?

Inconsistent.

Have the talent to play with and beat anyone in the state but can't defend well enough right now to put teams away. I assume that will get better as the season progresses.

Ballard is really good though and playing them in Louisville isn't easy. Courier Journal made the following comment toward me when I asked about the officiating in this one:

I see his view. 3rd quarter Holmes didn't get any calls. In 4th quarter, Ballard didn't get any calls. If a Ballard player touched a Holmes player on the 4th, it was a foul. 1st half was called pretty good though.

Scoring for Holmes v Ballard: Bolden 25, 5 ast, 4 rbs, McClendon 23, Mullins 10, Arnold 8, Moore 6, Avery 4, Greene/Commodore 2

Scoring for Ballard v Holmes: Perry 32 & 7 rbs, Eaves 20, 5 rbs, & 5 ast, Douglas 14, Schiavone 13, Ramsey 6 & 9 rbs, Alvey 5, Smith 2

Rod Avery only played 7 mins...he is a difference maker. Would like to see this game with him playing his usual 25+ mins. He didnt have any fouls...just a coach decision.

Corey Douglas got 2 fouls midway through the first quarter and sat the rest of the first half. Ballard a lot better when he is in the game. The real stud, though, is Jalen Perry. A very nice player.

Came over to the consolation gym to watch NCC, so I saw the last quarter and a half of this one. Some fan above me never shut up about the quality of officiating.

Were you at the game? Don't you think if Douglas doesn't sit most of the first half that the game is over before halftime?

Did anybody have a rim-rocking dunk? That's all I want to know.

Douglas played 18 mins total. I think Ballard wins regardless and is the better team but you can't sit here and act like not having Avery for 3 quarters didn't factor in to the final score. Avery is the only one Holmes has that can jump with and come close to defending Douglas because of how athletic he is.

Ballard won this game because of how well they shot the ball...not many teams are going to beat them when they go 10 for 21 from outside.

Perry had a couple nice dunks, with one putting Holmes jr Andrew Arnold on a poster, from what I heard.

Also saw that Avery had a dunk.
