From time to time, when I have nothing better to do and I need something funny to read I take a few minutes and log on to Bluegrass Preps.I have no ties to any teams as my granddaughter has been removed from high school for a couple years now,and the next one I hope to be alive to watch at the high school level is only a sixth grader.

That being said, some, and I say some, of the posts I read quite simply amaze me! I have extensive knowledge of "OLD SCHOOL" basketball, both boys and girls, and I do realize that while certain aspects of the GAME are different now, other aspects that surround the game are not.

 

As a vehicle to post scores and compliment exceptional performances, this site allows just that. I see no problem with a little playful bantering and rival trash talk but what I do have issues with is the fact that anyone who can come up with a user name and password, is allowed to "litter" these threads.

 

Over my many years of watching and coaching basketball this is one part that I can honestly say has not changed and probably never will. It ceases to amaze me how many people know so much about the game.Not just on this site but in the stands too.I have set next to fans who are the worlds best officials.....the worlds best coaches.....trainers,announcers,etc...etc. most of which, and I would bet the bank here, have never set foot on a court other than for gym class and maybe graduation!

I get so tired of seeing posts from those such people who want nothing more than to talk their favorite team into being a state champion 10 or so games into this season. If you read this post and you realize that you are who this post is about, and then want to say "Iam just kidding...gosh can't that old crusty guy take a joke", the answer to that is yes, I can take a joke. However, my ability to take a joke has nothing to do with how bad your lack of knowledge is embarrassing you!

I read the post that said Simon Kenton has a good chance to win state. I took this as a joke,(See, I can take a joke). This is exactly what Im talking about. Obviously a Simon fan out honestly thinks that because they have an 8-0 record that they have a chance to win state? Not trying to single out the author of this particular post as I could go on and on and list other posts as well. My point is if Simon,in this example, was 0-8,would they have a good chance to win state? Well lets see.....if they had played the top 8 teams in the state lost all games by 1 pt, in double overtime on the other teams court, I would say maybe, if all the stars align etc,etc they might have a chance.

Everyone who has any knowledge of the game at all knows its the last 10 or so games of the season not the 1st ten that give bragging rights!

 

Just wish some would think about what they're about to say or write before they speak or push that enter button!

Lets just post scores and give praise to these boys and girls.....Their performances are truly a gift!

Getting to state I agree 100%, winning state 0% and if they were in the ninth region I would say 25% chance of even making it to state.

Clucky is a sophomore and Barth is an 8th grader. Plus a very strong 8th grade class become freshman next year!! We'll be just fine!

 

I really liked her as a player but have seen better players than her in KY HS... For one Donna Murphy from Newport in the 70's was much better than Walz.

Agreed, your 8th class is very good, especially with Barth added in there. The pioneer's have a very good freshman class and a solid sophomore class. 8th grade class is not so talented, but the the 7th grade class is very talented and has arguably 2 of the top 3 7th graders (jones and stamper) in NKY along with a top 6th grader who played with Jones on the Royals Div I AAU Natl runner-up team, which achieved the highest finish of ANY Kentucky AAU team, boys or girls ever. They also have a 6'2-3 6th grader that plays with her who is a force in the middle to say the least. Not predicting anything here but the future is very bright for the pioneers...Jones can shoot the lights out. Watched her score over 30pts one time against Stamper & vickers legacy team that finished 10/11th that yr in Div I Natls. She did have a little help from the likes of Scherer, Macke, Sergeant (6th grader) and others.

I know all of them well. Will they all go to SK? And the other thing is you only really need 8-10 kids over 3-4 classes. After that, kids start to quit because they see the writing on the wall. It happens to HHS' 8th grade team. Think they had 13 kids on their 6th grade team. All of them could play. They were a combination of two Gametime AAU teams. So all 13 had a ton of experience. Now this year, they have 8 kids that came out for the team. And they begged the 8th to play. All those other kids were pretty darn good players, but they weren't as good as the top 8 and they decided to focus on other sports...that they were the best at.

 

My point is, to be a good varsity team, you really only need 2-3 kids per class. Sometimes 4-5 in a special class. But more than that, it actually starts to cause issues.

How does it start to cause issues? If you play well with each other and each player knows their role on the team then that my friend will make you a team to be made of. I feel that some players these days think it's about the name that's on the back of the jersey instead of the one on the front. Teams should be like a family.

 

Love each other, work with each other and you will preserve. It's ok from time to time to get into each other's throats. But that's out of love and care for each other. You bounce back from it and you get back to work.
