SK had a great offense they had almost 2000 yards passing and over 3000 rushing yards. Roy Lucas Jr. did a great job as OC.

I've never been impressed by the structure of HHS offense. They do an excellent job no question but Coverdale to me is on a different level. This thread is about the best OC. The job people point to with Coverdale was him as a HC. Look at his work as an OC at the other HS he has been at in IN. He did just fine. Coverdale is very open with what he does with coaches in the college level all the way down to youth guys.

 

On a different note I would love for a school to bring in Dan Gonzalez in as an OC. Maybe X should give him a call.

I think Gonzalez makes things way to complicated, while trying to make it simple. I am basing this off of a clinic and a book of his. He would be much better served being a college guy or at a high school program that strictly two platoons and has a really strong commitment to off season classroom work.

Coach Randy Borchers for Cooper. Now I know he calls the plays but I don't know who the actual title of Offensive Coordinator is and I do believe it is Coach Borchers who runs the offense.

 

I believe he is the best and it is mostly due to what he has been able to do year in and year out that many others don't do and that is adjust his offensive scheme according to the players. Could anyone ever see Hauk when he was with Boone County becoming a passing team etc.?

2011-12 they were a very heavy 2 back running team. Once they lost AJ Collins and Tyler Morris to graduation, the very next year 2013, with a 1st time starting QB went to a totally different philosophy and became a pass heavy offense where his receivers and QB set all school records for airing it out. 2014 he went back and changed from a 2 back system (as he had in 2011-12) to a 1 back running offense where he had the leading rusher in NKY and captured another regional championship, his 2nd in 3 years.

 

His ability to adapt and adjust makes him #1 on my list of best OC's.

Really? You are saying I think he was a bad coach? You missed the entire point of my post. Hauk as is a legend for Boone, the point I was making is he would never change his offensive philosophy, but if you don't understand that then maybe you don't know what we're talking about when we talk about changing philosophy toward who you have around you. Maybe it was over your head.

 

You did say something correct though when you said what Borchers does is what every good OC does, which by the way is exactly what this thread is about....good OC's.

 

Now something you tend to forget is the disadvantage Cooper has, especially over the likes of Trinity and Highlands (don't worry, not using the "R" word) yet Borchers for a new PUBLIC school with closed enrollment still has won 2 regional titles in 3 years. Pretty special, more so than T and H if you ask me with what he had to work with. They also were state runner ups in 2012 like Dixie was this year but still has more regional titles and District titles than Dixie has in the same time span.

Some of you really believe the guy at trinity is a genius, when they play in state schools they kill people bottom line because they have all the players!!!!

If high school, college and professional coaches consult with him I'd say he is pretty good.

I always laugh when people bring up his stint as a HC. There were a number of factors there and in the end I'm not sure it was a good fit for either party. His offense works just fine outside of T. It's funny that people make it sound like this super complex thing. It honestly isn't. They can do a little more due to being two platoon but any two platoon school could do the same. Coverdale is a great teacher. That is something people miss if they haven't really been exposed to his material.

He has too parts to his resume. T and Castle. At T his offense has been successful. At Castle not so much. It's a fact that from top to bottom T has more talent then any school in the state on a year in year out basis. Even when they have a down year for them they are still more talented than 99% of the schools in the state. I'm talking about at each position 1-11 on defense and 1-11 on offense. While they may not have the best player on the field every game they will be better then you at most positions. Add in the fact that pretty much no one goes both ways.

 

I'm not saying Coverdale isn't a good offensive coach because even with the best talent we've seen teams fail at all levels so it does take good coaching on top of talent. But We've also seen what the result was when he didn't have the talent. You can say it was a culture change thing and with more time it would have worked however you have no more proof of that then I do that it wouldn't work. What I do know is Castle was never going to be a year in year out power, and that is with any coach.

 

The fact is few programs will enjoy the success that T has over the years, I don't care who is coaching them. At the same time a number of coaches would enjoy the success the T coaches have over the years if they had the talent that T has had.

So what I am gathering is that if you coach at Trinity, HHS, or St. X you automatically can't be considered to be a good coach. We could install a fish with mental instability who would be just as capable because Trinity always has more talent than anyone else, got it. :thumb:

Please don't think that was the point of my post because that is not what I was saying. But when you are considering the best and Coverdale's name comes up, you have to include his entire resume and that resume includes a few years of being a head coach with ok results. You also have to take in consideration that he has most overall talent year in and year out. He may be the greatest offensive coach in the country, and I don't doubt he is good, but having that kind of talent can make a coach look pretty darn good.
