Why not schedule an independent schedule and automatically take a 4th seed in the district and possibly build up some confidence and success for the future....

 

I don't like the move to have some 3 teams districts, and then some 6 team districts.

Eastern Half of 5A...path has been relatively easy the last four years. Now you got Cov Cath and the Bluebirds in the eastern half of 5A.

I think thanks to KHSAA, every ky HS football fan got a raw deal. Anytime you have 3 team districts it stinks.

Exactly. KHSAA is more concerned about the number of districts than they are about the number of teams in a district which is wrong. If you have fewer districts then you can have byes in the playoffs, it's not rocket science. I have always been a proponent of making the regular season count for something. I think having more than 4 teams in a district only makes it better if you only allow 4 teams into the playoffs. Having 6 team district and only allowing 4 of those teams into the playoffs and NOT sending the other teams to other districts with 3 teams is what should happen. There should never be a 3 team district period, especially when you have 6 teams in the same class in the same area.

 

NKY has 6 6A teams, why have them form 2 districts is just stupid.

Not saying I disagree, but are you willing to foot the bill for the two NKY teams to drive to Louisville and vice versa every year? It's easier to make two 3 team districts in NKY so those teams (both NKY and Louisville) only have to travel in the playoffs. Asking 4 teams to spend an extra $1000-$1500 (at least) in travel is a big deal and takes money away from the program that could be spent on the players.

Whats the difference in that and driving to Harland Co.? for playoff game? Actually Louisville is a lot closer than many games Cooper has played in the playoffs in the past. Shoot they had South Oldham in their district remember.

 

Also who cares about driving to Louisville to play every other year? So what? The finals are held in Bowling Green which is a lot further also.

 

So to answer your question, if a team can't afford to drive an hour to play a game then they shoulnd't be playing football in the first place.

 

Something you are also ignoring is the fact that because of the 3 team districts, 2 Louisville teams are now put into those 2 NKY districts for the playoffs....so they are still making the drive with 3 team districts every year.

Also who cares about driving to Louisville to play every other year? So what? The finals are held in Bowling Green which is a lot further also. .

Take only the top SIX from each now "Region" (no more 'districts) for the playoffs -- 1 & 2 seeds get a bye in 1st round.

 

No more 1 vs. 4 blowouts. 6 plays 3 and 5 plays 4 in first round so pretty much all the 1st round games are competitive. Travel is not that much more b/c the 1st 3 rounds are intra-region.

Who cares about gate receipts, that's not why the games are played.

Again, I would love to know what you consider local. As I already stated there is traveling a lot of times in week 1 of the playoffs anyway. take 2012 for instance, we put over 1200 miles on our cars traveling to the playoff games we played in that year, all 5 were on the road. South Oldham is a good hour drive at least and they were in our district, so we traveled there during the regular season and the playoffs. In a perfect world you would have the first two weeks where you don't have to travel much, but in reality that isn't always the case. Cooper last year traveled to Anderson County as their first game, this year it was their 2nd game, where you come up with that as local is beyond me.

District 5 vs district 6 in 3A could pit NKY Pendleton County at EKY Belfry. Has to be excess of a 4 1/2 hour trip. The closest potential matchup between those district is Russell and Lawrence County and that is most likely not going to happen until at least the second round.

You're not listening! Teams share gate receipts in the playoffs, not in the regular season. And it comes down to money because that's what pays for new equipment, reconditioning, practice equipment, etc. That has, does, and always will play a factor in scheduling. Again, I don't care how far you travel in the playoffs. I care about unnecessary road trips in the regular season that no one benefits from. There is 0 connection between any of the NKY and Louisville teams. No one will travel either way. Why have a big bill and then a home game nobody comes to? It's a lose, lose. Especially for the Louisville teams that struggle financially anyway.
