December 17, 201411 yr How lucky for these students to be able to visit the Vatican and sing for the Pope! Making memories to last a lifetime! Good luck and safe travels! St. Henry choir will perform for Pope Francis ERLANGER – Members of the St. Henry District High School Chamber Choir will sing for Pope Francis on New Years Eve at St. Peter's Square for the blessing of the Vatican Creche. Twenty choir members and 32 adults will make the pilgrimage to Italy the day after Christmas. The trip will begin in Venice when the choir sings for Mass at the Basilica of St. Mark. The group will also tour the churches and holy places of Padua, Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Assisi and Rome. Following the blessing with Pope Francis, the choir will participate in the Papal Mass Jan. 1, along with the Sistine Chapel Choir and other visiting choirs, at St. Peter's Basilica. Later in the evening, the choir will present a formal concert in Rome at the church of San Lucia, then return to visit the Vatican and sing for Mass Jan. 3. "This is an incredible opportunity for these young people," said Chamber Choir director Eileen Bird. "We are happy – and lucky – to represent our school and our diocese through these international events." The choir raises money for similar trips by singing, selling CD's and accepting free will offerings. The new, professionally recorded CD, "Grace Beyond," is available for $15. To listen to excerpts from each song or to buy the CD, visit SHDHS.org.

December 17, 201411 yr How does a trip like this get funded? It's an amazing honor! The students are paying their own way. The trip has been planned since before last summer. I know of a couple kids that worked extra jobs this summer so they could go on the trip.
December 17, 201411 yr Congrats to them. Not many kids get to venture out of state, let alone the country. One thing on my bucket list is to visit the churches of Europe.
