December 11, 201411 yr LONDON — When King James touched the future queen of England on the shoulder after a basketball game, royal watchers cried foul. LeBron James, whose nickname is "King James," met Prince William and his wife Kate at an NBA game between Cleveland Cavaliers and Brooklyn Nets in New York on Monday. The three posed for a photograph and James put his right hand on the Duchess of Cambridge's right shoulder. According to protocol in Britain, a commoner is not supposed to touch members of the royal family — even if it is an innocent gesture. December 11, 201411 yr Author This story made me laugh. LeBron's facial expression/look in the picture made me laugh. Kate looks super uncomfortable in the picture. William looks very happy to be there. I love how the article calls LeBron a "commoner." I hope in the playoffs this season if Cleveland beats someone and makes their best player look bad, that LeBron will refer to said player as a commoner.

December 11, 201411 yr Author The British Royals are not worth as much as many think. Interesting data from a couple years ago... $1 billion: Estimated net worth of Queen Elizabeth and the first 13 people in line of succession before last week's birth of Prince George Alexander Louis to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. $510 million: Estimated net worth of Queen Elizabeth. $51 million: Cost to taxpayers to support the monarchy in the last fiscal year. $7 million: Travel costs included in the $51 million. $28 million: Payroll costs included in the $51 million. $30 million: Estimated cost of festivities for the marriage of William and Kate in 2011. Adjusted for inflation, this was about half of the cost of the 1981 wedding of William's parents, Charles and Diana. Royal family's net worth near $1 billion: Sunday's Numbers | cleveland.com
December 11, 201411 yr The British Royals are not worth as much as many think. It's complicated. Forbes estimated a few years ago that the Queen had a personal net worth of around $450 million. The Crown Estate (holdings of the British sovereign but not held in a private capacity) has a value of over $7 billion. The crown also holds the Royal Collection and many of the historical residences of the royal family in trust but aren't held privately. The nature of the jewels and artwork that are part of the Royal Collection to say nothing of Buckingham Palace itself make the value of that collection almost priceless. What anyone else in the royal family might be worth is a little more uncertain. I found numbers of around $200 million for Prince Charles' personal wealth.
