Hammons is playing for Morehead St right now and is throwing smoke (91-95). He is the starting rotation. I agree that Spanglar could get up there in the 80's as well

I dont mean to be a smart-elleck, but I seriously doubt that Morehead has anybody throwing in the 91- 95MPH range. Jarnagin told me last year that he has never had a pitcher that threw 90. In fact he said that during the whole season last year that Morehead only faced one kid that hit 90. I dont really think you realize the broadness of your statement. Chaz Rowe is the only person I have ever gunned at 90+ consistantly , and he's not playing college ball. He was a first round draft pick. Again not trying to be a smart elleck, those words were from Jarnigans mouth.

How is things going so far at KCC Pat Dad..whose doing good and who is gonna be some surprise players this year..Keep us updated on them..

 

KCC has had some very good practices. The weather has cooperated so far. All the players are really doing great. Players are giving up the body in practice. I know that some coaches will cringe when a player dives for a ball in practice before the season starts. If these guys are doing this now, they'll be doing more during the season.

 

Surprise players.....? I would have to say that the new guys are doing better than expected. KCC will have a deep bench.

Baseball practice begins today for the Leslie Co. Eagles basketball players. They will join the rest of the team that has been working without them. I think they are about 9 or 10 players that will be joining the team today. I'm sure coach Melton will be glad to see his team on the field. Leslie will open up the season against a much improved Knott co. team. This will be a good measuring stick for both clubs. Knott has one of the best coaches in the mountains and demands good play from his team. Good luck to all the teams in the 14th region. When the dust settles may the best team come out on top.

It would be my guess that if they do it will be for no more than a couple of innings. They will have less than two weeks practice under their belt so my bet is that they will see at least three pitchers.

I would have to agree. 90 plus is bringing it. I have watched a lot of collegiate games this year and haven't seen a 90 plus mph fastball so far.

There is a reason that the Yankee's don't know where Booneville or Beattyville is.....nobody has enough talent to play in those leagues. We all know that, if you are implying that Robert Smith should be playing the you may need to think again.....:confused:

Thanks for the info, I was already aware of this though. This was in the 1920's and 1930's, today it is different for players from Eastern Kentucky.

I am back. Not being critical, but when I look at that list I believe that the Littles, Wells, and Fulton are probably the only ones to throw it 85 with any consistancy. The others were very good however. That is the great thing about high school baseball. You don't have to throw it 85 to be effective. If you can change speeds and move it around you can be good. Two of the best pitchers I ever seen were lefties that threw no harder that 74.

 

Also, Jarnigan might have forgot about Rouch and Cercy (both of whom were drafted & Rouch pitches for Washington now) when he was talking about pitchers throwing over 90. I have seen both throw that hard but they didn't throw that hard a whole game.
