I was not at the game tonight but it sounds like this happened at a pretty critical moment. I can only assume that the way you are sounding off,, you must have some connection to the player. However,, I applaud Coach Borchers for making a move like this in a game of this magnitude. There is something missing in the coaching ranks today,, we have gone to a win at all cost and excuse whatever behavior a player does. This will go a long way in developing the culture in this locker room when a coach says we will not tolerate bad behavior in any situation. In my time I have seen too many parents satisfied with the team losing so long as their kid gets to play.

You mention that the coach is too controlling. Well anytime you take a team with a losing record to the Semi-state the next year,, I will take that type of controlling coach as I am sure other programs will. Great run Jags,, your community is proud of you. Good luck next year.

We will all agree to disagree. I would feel the same for any player in that situation according to the play. Yes you pull them out talk to them, cool them and see if they have the mindset to continue under control. Apparently he wasn't totally banished for his penalty because the kid continued to play special teams. So what kind of lfe-lesson is that? I'm just trying to understand the logic. You can play, but you can't play where you can help us the most. If I'm going to discipline a player for something I think you did wrong, I'm going to fully do it.

I'm sure many coaches have had to deal with this situation and did it many different ways. To each his own.

Yep, you're right. I know nothing about football and have no idea what i'm talking about. As for the player, the correct decision was made by RB. The player made a very bad decision in screaming "throw the &%% flag" in the heat of the moment of a very questionable physical play. He should be disciplined and punished to the max so that he never speaks that way again, because I'm sure his parents have never disciplined him, and society will be much better when coaches put those kids on the bench for overreacting in a football game. :roll eyes: That play was no larger than any dropped pass, missed tackle, fumble or interception that occurred by the Jags tonight. Pulaski was the best team that the Jags faced during the playoff run and, they got the much deserved win tonight.

You're right that one penalty didnt cost them the game anymore in the game than other big plays that happened but that penalty did have an impact. Since you want to use sarcastic comments like saying you know nothing about football. Then I am sure you then know how big of a thing momentum is in a game. At that point in the game Cooper had just scored and down only 12 to 7 and had Pulaski third and long. All the momentum had shifted to Cooper which is even more important to keep that momentum when you are on the road. So while that play was not any bigger than some other mistakes Cooper had, it still also was a big play in the game.

The thing you have to look at here, is did this penalty cost them the game?.... No.

Then you have to ask, did the player sitting the second half, cost them the game? No

There will be all kinds of, what ifs, and could haves, but I would agree that he sits the remainder of the game.

That is what coaches get paid for, to be that bridge between players and refs.

Yes it was words this week, but what if next time it is a bump.

Refs aren't always the best, or so it seems when you are not getting the calls, but they are a neutral force in every game.

Actions have consequences, and as you seen, after the remarks, the ref did throw the $@&?!@& flag :)

I know I joke around on here a lot, but to slam a coach for keeping his team classy..... No way

Both teams played great and made great adjustments, good luck to Palaski next week, and to Cooper next year.

Just a closing note...... The Kellar twins are beasts, I will have to watch more Cooper games next year.

When I am not watching my Bluebirds!!!!

Yes it was a penalty that kept the drive alive. Did you see the hit on the kid that caused the unnecessary outburst? It was an obvious late hit. I knew the game was going to be physical from watching some film on them.

Congrats to Cooper on a great playoff run. The injury adversity only made them deeper for next season. 5A better be ready for that group of Jags.

I can't believe we are still talking about this.

borchers did the right thing IMO. The absence of the player wasn't going to make any difference in the outcome of the game.

First you say the kid never played the rest of,the game and now you say he played special teams. Either way he got punished and I'm sure he now wishes he wouldn't have gotten out of line. You do t curse at an official when your playing period. He did and it cost him the chance of playing his position the rest of the game.

Can we please drop it and talk about the game instead of a parent who is upset a player was made an example of what not to do?

Congrats to Cooper on a great playoff run. The injury adversity only made them deeper for next season. 5A better be ready for that group of Jags.

Cooper elected to move up and play 6A for the next four years. Cooper made a nice run while in 5A.

On the player discipline issue, I will fault Borchers. If the player was out of control for 6-7 plays as was posted above and Borchers did not pull him out of the game to get him in check, then that is Borchers' fault. I also say it is a mistake to bench the player. He punished the whole team with that move in a state semi-final game. If this player is a regular starter who the team is counting on, benching him in this game is a mistake. If it is game 5 in regular season, bench him and make your point to the player and the team. In a state semi-final, that is not the time to go overboard to make a point about discipline.

I will disagree. I personally didn't see the kid being a problem for 6-7 plays leading up to (which I didn't see, but that isn't saying it didn't happen). Then the kid blew up and got yanked for it. He costs the team big time on what would have been a stop and Cooper getting the ball, instead it kept the Pulaski drive alive and they went up 2 scores. I don't understand keeping a kid in the game that will most likely continue to cost the team.

As I said earlier, the kid being out didn't cost the Jags the game. What would be better? Teach the kid and the rest of the players what you can't do, or ignore it and show the kids that you can get away with that type of behavior? I'd rather set an example.

So with that, I'm a bit confused, are you saying to let the kid continue to play like that hurting the team even more by getting more stupid penalties simply because he is a starter? I don't agree at all.

They will be moving up to 6A

Why would they elect to move to 6A? When they are a big force in 5?

Because they got the 'blues'. 5A NKY will be a tad tougher next fall.

Discipline him, yes. But not benched the rest of the game. You pull him from the game. You talk to him to make sure he has himself back in check. You tell him to go have a seat and you will let him know if he will play again. If he handles that well, I sit him one possession, perhaps two depending on how the game was going. Then I talk to him again, ask him if he is ready to play the Jags way and if he handles all that right, then put him back on the field. He would have played the best he has played all year the rest of the game.

Anywho......... Back to the game....... From what I have seen, the Jags had a very nice run, especially in the post season. Not a lot of teams can bounce back from the injuries like they did, and play to the level and intensity that they have.

Here's something that hasn't been mentioned. If and I use that loses ly, but IF, he was acting up the previous 6 plays he was in ( you need to know when he got the flag etc it wasn't the 6th play of the drive so apparently he had been acting up the series before) then who is to say he wasn't talked to on the sideline by the coaches? He then wouldn't stop after being talked to and warned and came back the next series like you think he should be allowed to do, and then got the penalty by cursing out the ref. don't you think that was grounds to bench him then? This very well could have been the scenerio. None of us are on the sidelines and don't if anything was said to him.

Either way, if I was the coach and one of my players cursed at the ref I would yank him also.
