November 21, 201411 yr The funniest thing of all is that Obama HIMSELF has said for years (numerous times) that what he is doing now is against the Constitution and that he does not have the authority to do so. I guess he doesn't think there is anything called videotape. The problem is that we need to seal our border at the same time we deal with the illegals already here. Obama will NEVER do that. To be fair, previous presidents did not either. I just feel sorry for states like Texas, California and Arizona that have to deal with the chaos that the illegals create. We in the heartland don't have to.

It wasn't perfect. It was a compromise, but it reflected common sense. It would have doubled the number of border patrol agents, while giving undocumented immigrants a pathway to citizenship if they paid a fine, started paying their taxes, and went to the back of the line. And independent experts said that it would help grow our economy and shrink our deficits. Had the House of Representatives allowed that kind of a bill a simple yes-or-no vote, it would have passed with support from both parties, and today it would be the law. But for a year and a half now, Republican leaders in the House have refused to allow that simple vote. Why is it this bill never passed? What was the big hold-up that didn't allow it to get through the House?
November 21, 201411 yr From NPR 7 Questions About The President's Immigration Plan Answered : The Two-Way : NPR Aside from the way he's acted on it, the plan seems a reasonable one as far as it goes. I am still a proponent for some type of penalty to be assigned but make it such a way that it can be handled without a great hardship. I would add some type of penalty payment plan withheld from wages over a time or even a community service aspect. Someone said it puts them lower in priority than those who have followed the legal process so I do like that.

Chaos is created by illegal immigrants ignoring our laws, not in doing the jobs although the fact that they and their employers stay off the grid certainly creates chaos. Not sure I've seen any legit studies on what/if they take jobs away from US citizens who would do them. Yes, we should be upset at the employers who hire illegals, they are also ignoring our laws.

Skilled laborers in the United States are at an all-time low, and at current, 53% of skilled workers are over the age of 45. I work in construction, and can tell you first hand that if you want to find a hard worker, it's not tough to find them amongst a crowd of Hispanics. And the jobs that they're doing on my jobsites...they aren't being taken out of the hands of anyone...period. When American parents everywhere are pushing their kids into colleges and $50K+ degrees, who is going to build everything? Computers?

Are you seriously asking what chaos the illegal immigrants create?? Really?? I know we don't live in Texas, California or Arizona but have you seen stories about the nightmares in those states dealing with illegal immigrants? Think about it. Do you think an additional 10MM people using the hospitals or schools or other things in those states won't overload the system?? Have you ever talked to someone who lives in those states? I have. If you don't think millions of people who should not be in the country but who are don't cause issues, I just don't know what to say. And I am not even talking about the illegals who have actually committed serious crimes (including rape and murder) against cops and other innocent American citizens. Regarding the jobs, you can make an argument both ways. That many more people in the system who will do jobs cheaper than the average American will definitely suppress wages (just an economic fact). However, they will do jobs that most Americans will not too. But the jobs issue is not the most important one at all IMO.
