Centre will face John Carroll University this Saturday at noon in Cleveland in Don Shula Stadium in a first-round game in the 32-team NCAA D III playoff. Centre is ranked 16 and 18 in two DIII polls while John Carroll is 6 and 9. The Colonels finished the regular season 10-0 and this was the first time they went undefeated in the regular season since 1955. The only other time they went 10-0 in the regular season was in 1921 (C-6 H-0). John Carroll went 9-1 with their only loss being to Mt. Union last week when time ran out as they were driving for a winning score. Centre set a school record for total offense per game at 453 yards. The winner will face the winner of Wheaton and Benedictine, two schools from Illinois, next week. The game will be live on video at jcusports.com. Go Colonels!

They are in different conferences but if they did play it would have helped out with strength of schedule for both teams.

If Centre hadn't have gone undefeated they probably would not have made the playoffs. Whatever organization that runs D3 football pulled the automatic bid from their conference this year.

Are you sure on that? I was thinking that Centre's conference (SAA), which is just in it's second or third year, isn't eligible for an automatic bid yet.

I remember Centre going 9-1 and not getting a bid despite being Conference Champs. In 1990? A lot of politics, or used to be.

Recognize a ton of the names on here from Kentucky. Centre is a great option to go play if you can afford it, I know a couple kids had offers to higher levels of play but Centre was just the better fit education wise.

I'm going to make the trip up to John Carroll tomorrow to watch them play. My connection...My son was recruited and had a career ending injury his freshman year, but they have allowed him to be a student assistant coach.

Good for you and your son. Please do everything within your power to bring home a victory.
