November 12, 201411 yr What can we do to help get NKU a football team? Just think if we had a D1 NKY college football team wouldn't that be awesome? Have Hoge at QB? Powell at RB? Winkler at WR? Drew Moore being a play maker? Wouldn't be awesome? They would have a huge O-line also. Alot of good talent in NKY I would love to see this happen.
November 12, 201411 yr Yeah, I want my $50 football fee back from 1997 too. Seriously though, I'd love it if NKU would start up a team, they wouldn't be D-1 for a long time if ever but I think it would be a nice product. There are a lot of talented D-2 & 3 level players in the the tri-state that could make them a strong team IMO.

Plenty of places to play.

November 12, 201411 yr This has been talked about for years in NKY. Startup costs are pretty astronomical from what I understand. Speaking solely on local talent, why do you think Thomas More has been so successful? You can tap kids from Northern Kentucky, Southwest Ohio and Indiana. I believe the Mount is having a pretty successful season as well because of these very same reasons. The difference between TMC and NKU would most definitely be the cost to attend the school.
November 12, 201411 yr I know Bill Erpenbeck was a driving force the first time around. He has plenty of time to head on this project again!

How much was the start cost going to be? Equipment and renting a place to play wouldn't cost that much. Paying coaches, scholarships and traveling for away games would be the only expensive thing.
November 12, 201411 yr ...... When UNC-Charlotte added football, the CEO of Belk (I'm 99% sure on that) pledged $20 million over 5 years to get them up and running and offset all of the costs associated with launching the program. Scholarships alone would be over $2,000,000 (total cost of attendance is $24,053 when you take the in-state and out of state and average the two, I'm not entirely sure how NKU would have to compute it, but that is a good ballpark x 85 scholarships)...where is that coming from? I'm of the camp (and I won't post all of the reasons why for the umpteenth time here [should be easy to find if you're interested by using search]) they never should have gone D-1, but I am absolutely certain that at no time in the foreseeable future will they have a football program.

You have to get D1 talent to have a successful D1 program. Would love it but D3 is saturated here. D2 could be an option if Georgetown doesn't move up from NAIA.
November 12, 201411 yr Terrible idea. NKU costs too much already. The best ROI of any public institution in the State of Kentucky and I believe the cheapest. I'm not sure why you feel that it is over valued.
November 12, 201411 yr What can we do to help get NKU a football team? Donate several million dollars to the athletic department's Gold fund, or whatever the call it. Love NKU and loved my experience there. If I'm them, I never worry about adding a football program.

Looks like for an in-state kid, Morehead State is about $300 cheaper per year in total cost of attendance. That is an estimated number, so to your point, NKU is certainly in the vicinity of the lowest cost of attendance for any state University.
