2005 UNC Champs Took 35 Bogus Classes in 2 Semesters

To be clear: at lower levels, I agree with most of the general sentiment here. Don't pass a kid on or let them get by if they can do the work but aren't. By the time you enter college, you are an adult and there are honestly just going to be more limits on how much you can progress in terms of education. Doesn't mean people shouldn't try, but that's just me being realistic.

It's just the level of hypocrisy by the NCAA that never ceases to amaze me.

And it is frustrating to me that ESPN just keeps quite about it and helps to brush it under the rug.

I will ask though. Is the reason that coaches from other major universities are being quiet because the same thing is happening at their schools?

You rarely hear coaches comment on NCAA investigations at other schools.

Short of some kind of smoking gun coming out as happened with the Reggie Bush scenario, I don't see the NCAA stripping a national title.

Personally, I don't really care if the athletes at UNC or wherever else took sham classes. If they could get into a great academic school like UNC and didn't want to take advantage of it, then that's on them. No one really benefits when an athlete takes a class, doesn't want to be there, and is disruptive for everyone else (not saying all athletes are like that, but if you went to a huge D1 school, you probably know exactly what I'm talking about).

I'm going to guess that this same type of thing happens at almost any major college. I'm just surprised that others are surprised.

This kind of thing does not happen at almost any other major college. Most college kids actually go to class and take tests. Now, they might take something like University Studies or P.E., but they aren't just taking faking classes.

You need to fix it to where it says "CHEETING".

:lol2:

They should be banned from all sports for forever.

From a different thread on the scandal....

It will be really interesting to see how the NCAA handles this one.

IMO, they tried to do nothing in hopes that all of this would just go away. Now that basically every major news outlet (other than ESPN) is all over the story, they've kind of had their hand forced.

If they don't vacate wins and take down banners, the NCAA is basically accepting the fact that they no longer exist. If this doesn't warrant some type of severe punishment, absolutely nothing does.

If they do vacate wins and take down banners, UNC has to go through the shame that they deserve and that many others have faced.

I'm honestly fine with either option.

Again, if I'm a coach at a "blue blood" program and UNC isn't punished, I would for no reason, ever fear punishment from them again.

BCS Programs, you can bet it happens. Challenge, get a schedule book and walk into "Geological Disasters", "Sociology of Sports", and the like at an in-state university and see how many faces you recognize.

You think guys who go to a school as prestigious as Duke to play basketball go there and keep up with classes that kids who fought tooth and nail just to get into and have all day to study yet can hardly pass themselves?

If you are a good athlete, then you may have to show up and sit there quietly with your tutors and/or the managers doing something that doesn't distract everyone else, but you can bet it happens at other schools. The only question is the level that it goes on at.
