November 8, 201411 yr It is always nice to here the other side of the story. I hope Ashland gets destroyed next week! But which version is correct ?
November 9, 201411 yr Holmes must not have had gzme film of Ashland's last 2 games. Baker's jersey was stolen, and he's worn a different number the last 2 games of the year.
November 9, 201411 yr The Ashland area media and Ashlands head coach told a completely different representation of what happened. Who knows which is true, I surely don't. I suppose you do though? Holmes head coach is a good honest man. I don't think he did anything wrong.

Darn those Ashland tricksters!
November 9, 201411 yr Holmes head coach is a good honest man. I don't think he did anything wrong. He may not have, I can say the same about Tony Love. I'm not even a big fan of him as a head coach, but he is a very nice man.. The facts that we know are that the Holmes coach approached the Ashland coach, when the game was already decided. After that, Holmes put their first string back in the game. Then a Holmes player somehow lost his helmet and made contact with a referee, he was ejected from the game. Since there was a running clock, the refs held the teams in huddle until the clock expired.. Think what you want, it may just be coincidence.

November 9, 201411 yr Funny, I'm certain Backspin wa there and witnessed it first hand and his version doesn't mesh much with Corso so who's is right? I saw it live and I saw it memorex. I know what happened. If you think the Holmes coach wasnt yelling at the Ashland coach and telling him to come here and if you think the contact with the official or with one of his own coaches was incidental, I suggest memorex.
November 9, 201411 yr So it's thick headed not trickeration I doubt Ashland needed any trickery. If they were going to use it and somehow the Holmes coaches didnt spot Baker right away, shouldnt they have figured it out after the first 65 yard td run?

C'mon backspin, let's not let facts get in the way of a good argument..

November 10, 201411 yr As for Holmes getting to the game late, the bus driver got lost and took a wrong turn somewhere on the way. That resulted in them getting there late. Ashland had a few players dressed in different numbers then they had worn all season long. One was the Baker kid and one other was a linebacker. What purpose did this serve? Ashland was not going to need any trickery to win this game. During the game the Holmes staff was complaining to the referees about some extra curricular that was taking place after plays but the referees said they were not observing anything. Then after a play in second half an Ashland player kicked #52 for Holmes in the head as he laid on the ground and buckled him again. The referee claims that he didn't see it. At this point the coach called timeout and walked to the center of the field and is gonna defend his players and team taking cheap shots that they tried to address earlier in the game. He went to talk to the head referee during the timeout. He didn't walk to the Ashland sideline and to be exact the Ashland coach came onto the field. Coach Nevels pointed at the coach and exclaimed that his player had kicked his guy in the head. The Ashland coach fired back something to the effect as to "what are you going to do about it?" At this point the officials had pretty much lost control of the game. As for the ejection there was a scrum that occurred and a Holmes kid bumped into the official during the scrum. He didn't punch or hit the official. It was a chippy game that the officials didn't take control of and it got out of hand. After the game, several Ashland fans/boosters who were on the Holmes sideline came up to members of the Holmes staff and apologized for the actions of some of their players actions and that it was not representative of the teams that they traditionally field. So in all, it seemed like Coach Nevels was defending his players in something that they tried to address during earlier parts of the game that went unaddressed by the officials. After his player got deliberately kicked in the head, it was enough. I seriously doubt that Coach Nevels is going anywhere. Holmes got hammered a few times this year and and in games that were worse score-wise than this game and there was nothing near extra-curricular like there was tonight. They are having to work through a cycle of two years where the previous coach neglected freshman and sophomore classes. They will get better and having Highlands and Covington Catholic moving up helps. For some reason I'm willing to bet you are a Holmes fan. I think both teams sound like they were at fault and Ashland wearing different numbers is very bush league unless there was a good reason to such as their uniforms got lost etc. It sounds like to me the Homes Coach got a little heated and could be very well understandable if there were cheap shots going on after the plays etc. but he needs to handle it better. As far as Ashland, sounds like they may be a pretty dirty team and when you go so low as tactics of changing jersey's etc., well I don't feel bad for them at all.
