Let's stick with the facts instead of inserting politics into this discussion. Officers knew going in that this was a field party involving underage drinking and pot use. Officer Brockman said that in his statement. In other words, officers knew they were dealing with a bunch of squirrely kids, many if not most of them high on booze and dope, and many unable to follow commands much less operate a motor vehicle.

 

And someone died because she panicked instead of following a lawful instruction.

So how should this have been handled? Based on your years of experience in second guessing law enforcement officers actions. What would have been the proper way to have handled this situation from the very beginning? Should Boone County Sheriff's department have even responded to the call?

Yup, thanks to the added character assessment of the young girl as well as the DA's influence. It happens, they protect their own.

Back in the day when we had field parties, it was on someone's farm with one gate to enter and exit. That gate got locked at sundown and if you were inside it, you were there for the night! If the police came, they got you. What ever happened to responsible underage partying?!?

 

I feel so bad for this girl's family and friends but I also feel for the police officer who had to make an immediate decision based on this girl's actions. I cannot stress this enough to my children to obey the police officer's commands and be respectful if pulled over. It is also a constant reminder in my home to absolutely never get in a car with someone who has been drinking or doing drugs.

 

Poor decisions made by this young lady is the ultimate reason she is dead.

Bottom Line: This was a bad situation. The Grand Jury after hearing ALL of the info made the correct decision.

I see police cars completely blocking streets in Covington, Cincinnati and Newport about four-five times a year. According to the officer's statement, his parked police vehicle with lights flashing only occupied one lane (westbound) of the exit road, not both lanes.
