Conner 7th grade girls are the best middle school girls team I have seen.

 

Beechwood 6th grade girls have doubled the score on every team they have played. They beat Conner 6th grade 23-3. They were leading RA Jones 23-1 then Jones scored some points late in the 4th -final score 26-11. Sharp 6th grade is pretty good and Beechwood beat them 26-2.

 

That being said, many of Beechwood's 6th grade team played up in the 7th grade game versus Conner and got beat really bad. I believe the score was something like 45-10. Conner's 7th grade team is really good.

They did! They played a whale of a game and the little blonde guard hit two unreal threes to take the lead with a minute to go. (the only time they had the lead). HHS was in foul trouble most of the entire second half. Conner was in the bonus before the 4th qtr started. One of the best HHS players didn't see a ton of action because of foul issues and hit her head earlier in the game and sat out some because of it. No excuses, Conner definitely earned the win today. They played well and the HHS studs did not take over the game when it got close...like they should have. Kinda got lost instead of taking over the game. I had a nice discussion with a couple of them on the ride home. LOL!

 

Game was called much differently in the first half than in the second half. I was surprised to see that in the refs.

 

My guess is these two teams will meet again in the finals.

Corrine Crawford hit the 3s. The other 3 moving up has allowed for her to get more touches. Really nice athlete.

It's forcing a lot of those young ladies to step up. May be the best thing that happens for Conner basketball. They are gaining more anore confidence.

Sounds like the 6th grade Beechwood girls won't have any competition in their division. Too bad they can't play in the large school division. I know Turkeyfoot, Grey, Twenhofel and someone told me Highlands have some pretty good teams.

Yes, this is where the split doesn't work out for teams. When a small school has the talent to compete, it kinda stinks for them to be stuck in the division that won't provide a ton of challenges. I understand the reason for trying it and my guess is it works for the majority of the time (because I've seen some ugly games) but in this situation it would have been nice for the Beechwood kids to be able to play up. I'm not going to pretend to know how it works, but this may be something they modify going forward...the ability for a team from a particular school to move up when they are able. My guess is the entire program (6,7,8) decide on which division, because the way they schedule, it would be a nightmare to make one exception for one age group and not the program. Seems like an issue they should be able to fix...if they wanted to.

They have a center last name either Hammond or Drummond (can't remember). #23. Kudos and props to any and all who have worked with her. Rarely even in high school do you see a girl who can post and then put moves together after catching the ball. This girl caught it twice early on the low block. Faked a spin towards the baseline with her right hand, went back across the lane and made a left-hand hook. She's right-handed. Really, REALLY impressed with her.

Since there are only about 2 weeks left in the regular season, who are your picks to reach the finals of the Girls Middle School tourney? After watching several games this year, this is what I see from the Large School division.

 

6th Grade- Twenhofel, Turkeyfoot (Highlands, CCHS have a chance)

7th Grade- Conner, Highlands (Holmes)

8th Grade- Highlands, Conner. Two team race from what I have seen.

 

The only team I could see running away with the title is the 7th grade Conner team but I am hoping my Lady Birds 7th graders can step it up and hand them a loss.

Maddie Drummonds, product of a lot of hard work when no one was watching. She currently trains with Legacy..

I believe she plays with Shining Stars as well.

Don't believe that she is playing with Shining Star anymore. From what I have heard she is going to be playing for Legacy this summer.

Quite possible. There seems to a lot of movement of players in the 7th thru 9th grades. With all of the team tryouts that are happening in the next month, it will be interesting to see where everyone falls into new teams in the AAU season. Best of luck to everyone.
