Very true Clyde. Just very tough to overcome point gaurd loss at any level is what i meant. Agree with you on all the above.

8th grade girls. HHS defeats Conner 35-27. This is what was texted to my daughter so i have no details. Pretty close game from the score. Heard some noise about Strange from Conner having a solid game. That girl plays hard and is extremely athletic! Congrats to HHS.

Conner really impressed me last night. IMO, they outplayed the Birds. They won 70% of the 50/50 balls and really out hustled the Birds last night. The Birds played like they expected to win and Conner was having none of that last night! Conner was very quick and for the most part, protected the ball pretty well. In the end, HHS was able to get the ball the hands of the right players and finish Conner off. But Conner won the majority of the battles in my opinion.

 

As for HHS, they have yet to play with the intensity I would expect from them. The defensive effort has been lazy in the first three games and it almost cost them last night. The also turn the ball over WAY too much and too many lob passes. Their stars also need to learn to take the game over when it gets close.

 

If Conner plays with that intensity all year, I still look for both teams to win the rest of their games and most likely meet in the finals...again!

HHs 6th grade won by about 10.....7th grade, Conner handled the Birds, lighting it up from behind the arc in the first Q jumping out to 9-0 lead. Birds played a better 2nd half but have some growing/development to do before they entertain the Conner crew again.Think it will get better for them as they progress through the season. Conner will be their benchmark !

I caught the 7th grade game at halftime & Conner was winning by 20+ points. Conner looked like a very solid team and I thought that game would have been much closer. I also thought Conner's 8th grade team played a very gritty & intense game. I'm not familiar with MS names but Conner's #20 & #23 were the solid players for me on both ends of the floor. I saw their other players make some great plays as well. For me Highlands didn't match the intensity & being a home game that surprised me. They won so they did something right, but given this was early in the season, Conner could surprise them next time if they don't bring it! Overall it was a great early season match up & glad I was able to watch some MS action!

I'm sure!! I only saw the 2nd half & didn't really see a weak player in the bunch. From what I saw I'd say they are one of those rare teams that has multiple solid players, not necessarily one or two standout stars. Teams like that are very hard to play with let alone beat. You could also tell these girls play year round basketball from their defensive skills & how well they work the ball around on the offensive end. Conner's high school program has a bright future looking at the talent on the 7th & 8th grade teams!! (Didn't see the 6th grade game last night so can't say anything about them) Question is will they keep the talented young players on the same team & develop the players as a team or will they pull players up & develop individual players instead? IMO-I'd develop the team as a whole all the way up. Over time weaker players will filter out & what you have left is a group of players that know their role on the team which will find more success in the end. Successful teams have more "We" & less "Me"!!!

And that was a pretty strong performance against Highlands 7th... at one point they hit 7 out of 8 3's that they put up... no one will come close to beating them if they shoot like that.

Like I said I didn't see the first half, but what I did catch makes me think Summit view/CMS game will be a good one since I know some of the SV kids from soccer (that is if they are still on 7th grade team & didn't move up!) I missed the 3 pt shooting from Conner because I don't remember them shooting many the half I watched. If they can shoot like that then they impress me even more. What I saw was very good defense and excellent ball movement on the offensive end. Assuming that with the lead they had & players playing at the end of the game, I didn't see a weak player on the team. Very quick, no fear, good ball handling & shot selection...hard to believe it was only 7th grade. I will say that it makes a valid argument for the benefits of playing AAU and year round ball. You could tell all these girls play AAU from the maturity in which they play. I know someone said 8 play for Legacy but does anyone know who the other girls play for? I'd say this team is great advertising for the Legacy program!!

That is going to hurt the Legacy team. They were the leading scorers. Why did they decide to leave?

Not 100% sure and yes that is a hit to Legacy for sure. I also heard that the point guard which is also from Summit View may not be playing anymore as well as she is a very good Soccer player.

I don't think that any one from Legacy was shocked when they left or made any attempt to keep them from leaving. The direction of the team and the direction of the players sometimes do not align over time. I'm sure both would agree that they are better players because of the time and training that they got with Legacy. Wishing them continued success.
