Title IX, title IX! Just kidding, but we should talk about the girls too! A lot of talk of several playing up this year in the HS programs. Whats the MS landscape look like now? Teams to beat? Players to watch? Let's talk!

I certainly think Highlands 8th and 7th have to be considered among the best in those divisions because of the restriction against their more skilled players playing up. Conner may present competition at both age groups, although it depends on how many girls from each of those teams get pulled up onto high school teams.

I have one question about Turkeyfoot's 8th grade team. I was told that a team called "Sun" that played out at Sports of All Sorts was the Turkeyfoot 8th grade team, and they were pretty decent. I would expect that if that was, indeed, the Turkeyfoot 8th grade team, they would present some formidable competition. Many of those girls had on Dixie gear, though, so I was curious if that was last year's 8th grade team or this year's and whether some of those girls are playing up. Anyone know?

Turkeyfoot's 8th grade is unfortunately the only team that has a chance to play with the HHS 8th grade. With the movement of the Conner girls, they just won't be able to hang with HHS (IMO), who actually beat them once last year with those 3 playing. If none of the Turkeyfoot girls are moved up, then they would be the next best team. However, HHS has never lost to them and beat them in the tournament last year with one of HHS' two best players out with an injury. The other really good player got in foul trouble early also in that game and I believe they still ended up winning by about 9-10. The other factor with the HHS 8th grade team is they only had 7 players come out for the team. The 7 they have are very strong. In the past, their coach has done a great job playing everyone in just about every game (6th grade they had 13 players and in the 7th they had 11). That means their best players didn't always play a lot of the game and many times their top 6-7 were split up and not played together. This year, there are only 7 players. So the options of not playing the top players or even any of the 7 together go away now.

Taking that into consideration and the fact that several 8th graders from all the other schools have moved up, I think I'm going to invest in a book club.

Check your info, Turkeyfoot has moved players up. I believe Conner played them this weekend at Tichenor and handled them pretty well from what I hear. I think everyone may be underestimating the balance of that Conner team.

I hadn't heard about them...but not surprised. And Conner would be the number two if that is the case, but still don't think they will be able to play with HHS without the 3 studs! Maybe I'm wrong! I hope. It stinks for the kids left at HHS that they may not see one challenging game all year. AAU can't get here soon enough and we haven't even started the season!!!

I had no idea the HMS 8th was that small a number.... pretty shocking....

Turkeyfoot did move some of the 8th grade girls up to Freshman. They lost to the Shining Star 7th grade team in the finals of the SOAS league.

HHS will not have a tough game this year in the 8th grade IMO. Conner may play with them but not sure how long they will be able to hang around and make it a game. Heard that SK moved 2 girls from Summit View 7th and 1 girl from Twenhofel 7th up to Freshman. Ryle also moved 1 from 7th and 1 from 8th up as well.

Fairly certain that I know who every one of those girls are, and I am not surprised. The only additions that I have heard are that it was two eighth graders at Ryle playing up, in addition to the 7th grader, and that there is a very young 7th grader at Holmes that is playing up (and who may wind up being the biggest surprise of them all IMO).

Were both 8th graders from Ockerman or 1 from Gray (L. Schwartz) and Ockerman (Juliet).

As far as 6th grade girls, Gray, Twenhofel and Turkey F should be good...

Who do the girls at those schools play AAU with?

I know a couple of the TF girls play for Legacy.

Yeah, I've been told there are 3 from Legacy that plays for Turkey F. Gray has Shining Stars players and Twenhofel has a group that play together in the SOAS league and 1 also plays at Legacy and couple others play elsewhere

There's a trend in NKY that the top girls coming out or in Middle School have things in common. That they play outside of school ball with an AAU organization and that a high percentage of the best AAU players will have either played or trained with Legacy.
