There's a trend in NKY that the top girls coming out or in Middle School have things in common. That they play outside of school ball with an AAU organization and that a high percentage of the best AAU players will have either played or trained with Legacy.

 

If you go back to last year, the best of the players in 8th grade played for Legacy. The class behind them, the best played for Shining Stars. The class behind them, majority of the time with Royals. Heck, the just about anyone that is good in the JR class in all of NKY played with either Gametime, BCK or the Shining Stars. (And Diamonds at one point). Legacy has the latest and greatest class coming thru as freshman this year, but there are (and have always been) several AAU orgs that "get it done". The Legacy freshman group is special. But other groups have teams at the other grades that are very good as well.

That's right the common theme is that these girls all play outside of school ball with some AAU organization and this is great for the girl basketball!!!

Legacy is a 3 year old organization so with the Freshman class and younger players you will see a higher % of the best players either playing with Legacy or Training with Legacy. (even if they play on a team in another organization)

RCC9 can probably confirm but I believe HMS starts the season with a sweep of Camp Ernst last night. 6th grade game was close in the 1st quarter but HMS ran away with it after that. 7th grade game, I thought would be closer. Camp Ernst has some good size at the 7th grade level and seem very athletic. Not sure if they just had an off night the 2nd smallest girl on either team is pulled down 3 boards in 4 mins.Game was never close as HMS shot well from the field and rebounded well. The key to HMS 7th grade is their defense. Probably one of the best defensive teams in NKY. I saw the 1st half of the 8th grade game and the score was actually close but HMS was controlling tempo and were all over the boards. Love seeing paint penetration from Coffey, Jansen, and Buecker. Cannot see any team beating this 8th grade team this year unless they get into foul trouble.

In the 8th grade game...I thought Camp Ernst played great last night. They were able to break the HHS press fairly easy. (which needs some work and more intensity...lacking from last year). CE has some nice players and size. HHS won by 13 and kinda took the foot off the gas at the end. But I was impressed with CE. They were well coached and the CE girls executed well last night.

 

As for the HHS girls, need some more intensity on Defense and they will be right where they need to be.

Conner and HHS on Thursday! Every game in this matchup has been unbelievable in the past. However, Conner has moved up 3 very good players this year. They still have a very solid team around those 3, so it will be interesting to see how they play. I think they may be in the same boat as Gray...looking for the main ball handler as two of the 3 that moved up were their starting guards the last two years. But still plenty of talent on that team to compete, just not sure how ready they will be this early in the year.

Same team. Numbers are good in the HS program now, so no move ups this year...other than the Barth girl that's been up since 6th grade.

Agreed. HMS plays Conner, Gray and Camp Ernst this week. Kinda wish those were at the end of the season to let those teams adjust before playing HMS.

It is much more than losing Jordan. Conner lost 3 really good players. No jr high team can withstand that loss.

I don't predict...But I'm sure vegas has a line on this one somewhere. Clyde has seen both teams, so he's a good as anyone to predict. HHS has played two games...they brought the intensity last night, but not so much the night before. However, I think Conner will bring out the intensity in them...regardless of those three playing or not.

 

The game these two teams played against each other at HMS last year was unreal! I'm not sure you would find a better MS game...boys or girls. Two heavy weight fighters exchanging blows and both sides playing way above a 7th grade girls level. It was really fun!

Very true Clyde. Just very tough to overcome point gaurd loss at any level is what i meant. Agree with you on all the above.

HMS will give Conner match up problems. Not sure Conner can guard the Bluebirds in this one! Hopefully Conner can keep it close.
