This young lady plays with my granddaughter on KHA U14 Red and is an unbelievable soccer player. I doubt however that she will give up basketball altogether. She may stop AAU because of soccer conflicts over spring/summer but I bet she still plays bball for school. Great & supportive parents as well...just an all around athlete!!!

Losing a player of Stamper's caliber would be a blow to any team, so I definitely think it will affect Legacy, and, yes, the Shining Stars have definitely improved via acquisition, adding 2 players from the nation's number 2 team (Royals) back in April, and now picking up the leading scorer from (I think) the nation's number 10 (?) team, Legacy. It is difficult to keep a successful team together, obviously, and I wouldn't bet against more shifting of talent before AAU season gets underway in the spring....

IMO...It's not super hard to keep AAU teams together, if you are doing it for the right reasons. If you are seeking a national championship, then yes...it's tough. There is a lot of cut throat that goes on when trying to win at all costs and I think parents (of girls especially) are too over the top with seeking out the trophy.

 

I can tell you that the 9th region is very competitive this year, as well as teams like Scott, Brossart and Campbell and SK. A big reason, those teams are full of players that played majority local AAU when they were younger. And the teams those ladies were on had very little turnover at all. Most started in about the 4th grade and still had their core of the same players through freshman year. All were very competitive locally and all developed the kids very well. If you look at those teams. They are filled with players from either Shining Stars, Gametime, BCK or Lady Legends. All of which kept their core together and would only really add if someone chose to leave. In almost all those teams, they didn't leave for greener pastures, they left to focus on another sport or realized BBall at that level just wasn't for them. You don't have to seek out the best to make yourself a player. And when you start "seeking a national championship" is that really a good experience for the kids. Are they learning the right things? Because there is a lot of crap that goes on when your eye is solely on winning.

I have a close relationship with the Legacy organization, Morgan Stamper's is a nice player but her loss will not have a huge impact on the team overall. Legacy has in the past had other players leave only to return once they get the full experience and not just the promises. With Legacy it's about what you earn, some players like that some don't.

Losing Stamper and Vickers is a hit for any team! Say what you want. Pretty sure that one or both started for Legacy. One is definately better than the other at certain points of the game.

I have no clue why decided to leave Legacy. Don't care. All I know is that they played with SS during the last session at SOAS.

Losing the two girls from Legacy will definitely hurt! Not only their ability but size also. Guess we will have to see how the remaining compete in D1. Legacy has lost a lot of top players this year!!

I am guessing the remaining team will continue to play in the top AAU tournaments and be top 10 contenders again at d1 nationals in the summer, since the lost of these two players will not impact the team. Lathered the sarcasm on pretty thick Bball... but I think I agree with your assessment. That team plays very physical and is well scored, but really Morgan was basically their first, second and third scoring option... her loss will leave a void IMO.

I'm sure that both girls made the best decision for them.

I guess we will have to wait and see if it does hurt the team. Let's revisit in July and see who's post is more accurate. YES, Bball Legacy 7th will continue to play at the highest level and will be a better team even with losing Stampers and Vickers. Those 2 didn't become great players overnight, Legacy developed and trained them which made them a nice pick up for another organization.

Maybe the problem is you have always been the 1.2.3 option and now in practice other players are working harder and taking your reps and you don't like the new direction, so you move to an organization where you can just play and you don't have to compete.

Or maybe the move was to an organization with other top seventh grade players providing move challenges and room for growth for the girls. To say SS just plays and does not compete on a high level makes no sense. To make assumptions on why someone left and trying to tear down players because they chose to move to a different organization is wrong. Both teams have good players, and I wish them all good luck in the spring, but remember you are talking about 12 year kids.
