Ironton (OH) 25 Raceland 12

Sounds like Ironton is back to it's old ways.. It sounded as though there may have been a few questionable calls that could have impacted the final result, but, good to see the Ram fans MAN up and not make excuses. I respect that. Class Act all the way. Good luck in your playoff run..

:lol2: Not really, only a couple. One was in the 4th qtr., Raceland had just stopped Ironton. They were driving, came up on 4th down, 2td's down at that time I believe. Raceland's QB Completed a long pass that would have gave the 1st down plus some. Officials called it back on a holding call. The radio crew just busted out laughing saying it was bad. Anoter one that really hurt was in the first half, Raceland up 12-6. From deep in their own territory a Rams RB broke a 70 soething yd. run that would had been 1st & goal on the 5yd line. Play was called back. Ironton took the ball on ensuing possession and scored before the half. Game tied, Tigers going in half on a high.

I talked to a couple of people that said it was questionable but personally, I was listening on the radio The wlgc radio crew was questioning that one as well.

Bottom line is that Raceland made too many mistakes in this one. Turnover, bad mistakes on special teams. As coach Salmons said after the game, this one exposed a few things tat needs work before going into the State A playoffs.

Ironton was the better team in this one. No excuses.

My thoughts on Ironton, who I do like.

They are slowly getting back to where they once were, but are no where close to that.

In the big scope in D-5, they have no chance of a state title.(I.M.O.)

In their on region, region 17 even though they will host their first round playoff game against Martin's ferry and at best this one is a toss up. (I.M.O.)

Columbus Hartley, who won't pass any eye test is the real deal and should be able to come out of the region, that is loaded.

Hartley, Wheelersburg and St. Clairsville are all as good as it gets in this Div and if any of them make state I would not be shocked.

The top 8 are all good and could find themselves on a path to face Coldwater in the state finals.

Div 5 is loaded.

Comparing scores.

Ironton 41

Ashland 13

Ironton 36

Russell 9

Ironton 25

Raceland 12

You left out the Ashland /Raceland score.

Now a question for Sidelinedoc and or TCA - Did we have anyone hurt tonight ? I think that the Rams were healthy going into this one tonight. What is the status going into the playoffs ?

As far as I know we came out of it healthy.

One injury we did have, Alex Niece got hit in the third quarter and had to be pulled for concussion like symptoms. Doc will have to finalize that.

However, no Ram likes a loss, but we did not play well in this game. We came out of the gate hot and scored. We missed a fake punt conversion that could have been easily converted but the Raceland player slipped and fell. In the first half, Raceland played well, especially up front. But in the fourth quarter we made too many mistakes and did not execute. The refs did not give us a break last night, but we knew that coming in. One big miscall was on a punt and Ironton's return man made a clear fair catch call and all the Ram players ran past him and gave up on the play and the returner tool on and returned it to nearly the 50.

I honestly am okay as a Ram fan that we lost this game. This game is nothing to us other than another game to prepare us for the playoffs and I think it did its purpose. This Raceland needed weaknesses shown and they were. I think Coach Salmons and staff will watch this film and be proud of the effort and will fix the mistakes.

Still proud of this team. You now need to take it one game at a time and beat one opponent at a time. Do not over look any team.

I thought the Tank would have been packed for this game, I saw a picture during the game and it didn't look like there was 100 Rams fans there, unless they were setting on the home side :)

The game will be aired several times this week on the Ironton Tribune’s website, and locally on Time Warner channel 25, and Armstrong Cable channels 4 and 100.

I watched it on Hudl. Ironton's defense stepped it up in second half. Congrats to the Tigers. The best team won. We won't face anyone better than that in the playoffs.

I disagree. This year's Pikeville team is good. I know Pikeville runs a pistol formation offense and doesn't run the ball 80 times a game but they have a very good team this year. Not to mention that we have to travel there.

Time to break the streak of the home team always winning

Pikeville and Raceland game will be a dandy..

Historically, the Raceland fans don't sit in the stands, we all stand. Too much excitement to be contained by bleachers. lol

I promise, there a lot more then 100 Raceland fans, when the Rams travel 2+ hours, they almost always outnumber the home team's fans. Rarely have I seen a game where the opposing team had more fans at the game. Ironton probably out numbered Raceland, and Ashland is normally a draw. But, historically, those are rare games.

You left out the Ashland /Raceland score.

Not pertinent for this purpose.

Of course, I'm sure it hurt the argument you were trying to make.

Calls didn't decide the game. Raceland had plenty of opportunities but did't execute. Plus, a very good Ironton team had a lot to do with Raceland lack of execution.

Raceland's defense had a great night and pushed Ironton to third and fourth down a lot, but they gave up three big plays that were the difference in the game. All three were plays over 30 yards and runs that were by a running back that has great break-away speed.

On offense, Raceland was anemic in the second half, now a lot of that has to do with half-time adjustments by Ironton, but nonetheless, Raceland didn't get it done in the second half.

Great game. And, a game that will help both teams next week. I really like this series, sad it couldn't have continued.
