In listening to the game the Rocks had plenty of chances in the second half to tie or take the lead but were unable to do so.

Looks like LaSalle is the best team in the GCL.

As up and down as Moe has been as of late this is a bigger win then I first though it would be when I first looked at the schedule.

This was a very entertaining game and the constant drizzle and brisk second half wind added to the atmosphere. There is no reason Trinity cannot get on a five game winning streak from this point.

 

The radio (cell phone) team stated Jailen Reed is expected back next week. That will give Donald Brooks a week off if he needs it. Now it is time for Coach Beatty and staff to expect the best from the team during this last third of the season.

Based on their last 2 games T will be a tough out in the playoffs. I wouldn't be surprised if the Rocks and Birds end the year still tied for total championships.

Nice recap by Louisville Catholic Sports, pretty much sums it up. I really thought Trinity's D punched big Moe in the mouth in the second half, they couldn't get anything going. We were just one play here or there from bringing home the W, great ballgame, lot's of positives to take from this heading into the playoffs:

 

The Trinity Shamrocks ended their regular season with a 17-14 loss at Cincinnati Moeller Friday night.

 

All of the scoring took place in the first half as both offenses struggled in the cold, windy, rainy conditions that deteriorated throughout the game.

 

Trinity (5-5) started strong with Donald Brooks taking the opening kickoff across midfield, but the Rocks were forced to boot their first of eight punts on the evening.

 

Moeller (7-3) dented the scoreboard late in the first quarter courtesy of a 24-yard field goal by its all-time leading kicker Matt Coghlin. Just minutes later, a 9-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Matt Crable to wide receiver Jack Toomb extended the Crusaders' lead to 10-0 at 7:19 of the second quarter.

 

But the Rocks responded with an eight-play, 80-yard drive that ate up 3:31 and ended with a Ryan Young's 9 yard touchdown pass to Josh Dailey to bring Trinity within 10-7 with 3:48 left in the first half.

 

Momentum shifted quickly as the Crusaders needed only 1:16 to score their second touchdown. It was another Crable-to-Toomb connection, this time from 20 yards out, to give Moeller a 17-7 lead.

 

A quick, committed drive from the Rocks set them up deep in Moeller territory and Brooks finished it with a 24-yard dash to pull Trinity within three. And that was the end of the scoring.

 

Both defenses shut down the big plays and the teams settled into a field position battle. Trinity had a chance to tie it on a 29-yard field-goal attempt early in the fourth quarter, but Jay Nunamaker’s kick sailed wide left. Nunamaker missed a 46-yard attempt with less than two minutes to play and Moeller was able to run out the clock.

 

Trinity finished with 291 total yards while Moeller gained 337. On the ground, Trinity gained 64 yards on 24 carries and Young completed 20 of 42 passes for 221 yards and that touchdown to Dailey. Moeller’s Crable was 15 for 26 for 234 yards for two touchdowns and threw one interception.

 

Brooks was Trinity’s leading rusher with 76 yards on 14 carries and Crable gained 77 yards on 19 attempts.

 

Trinity’s postseason journey begins at Henderson County next Friday with kickoff slated for 8 p.m. EST.

I saw the last quarter on the very good Moeller video and I couldn't understand why Trnity kept on passing. I did not realize Brooks was out. That helps to explain it. Trinity did not post much of a W-L record but I hoestly believe that they can beat all the teams they've lost to. We'll see how the playoffs go, I guess.
