I guess you have to ask yourself if you want the 4 best teams in the country in the final 4. If so then how do you not have at least SEC teams in.

 

 

Look, I want the best chance that the best 2 teams play for the title. The BCS did a great job of that. I've been saying since it was announced a 4 team playoff does not settle any of the gripes people had with the BCS. Until you go to a min of 8 teams the crying will continue. I'd rather have he BCS than a 4 team playoff.

 

Good luck with that and the media around the country calling it the SEC tourney.

Bama. How could you take a team that wasn't even their division champ over the team that not only won that division but beat them head to head? And Georgia would be a lock as the champion. My guess is a Pac-12 champion Oregon with one loss would go over them. Maybe even a 1 loss Notre Dame.

Exactly. If you ask me, take Miss. St, Ole Miss and the Auburn/Bama winner along with FSU and those are your 4 playoff teams. IMO, it's that simple but it won't be that simple.

Everyone keep saying they don't want to value the regular season, by putting so much weight on the conference title game you are doing just that. With only 4 teams you have to put more emphasis on total body of work.

I think at most you see 2 from a conference.

 

If you see Bama win out and Ole Miss win out, you will see a lot of Tide fans wearing Rebel red, white, and blue on SEC championship day.

I'd prefer an 8 team playoff, as I think we mostly agree.

 

Even in an 8 team playoff, no way would I want automatic bids. We went to the playoff to get the best team, pick the best 8 teams.

 

Related to this thread, if there were an 8 team playoff this year, this thread would simply be about five SEC teams making it rather than two or three of four.

 

No way the SEC gets three teams in the playoffs. No way, no how. Won't happen.

 

SEC should get two teams in, one from each division provided Georgia wins out. Otherwise two from the west.

 

The above is no lock, committee will really want a sample size from around the country. Two SEC teams and Fla. St. hardly provide that.

 

I guess a one loss Big 10 teams gets in, along with a one loss Big 12 team. If Fla. St. wins out, that leaves only one SEC spot. That's just speculation obviously, but it's my guess.

 

However you slice it, you could have several one-loss teams asking what about us? TCU, KState or Baylor, maybe Oregon, as many as several in the SEC, Notre Dame, and if Fla. St. loses perhaps them as well. As PP said, this has the makings for a mess.

I don't think that is the case. The scenario he laid out is not one where a 2-3 loss team wins the conference. Georgia has a single loss and would be the SEC champion with a single loss. No, their resume would not feature as many high level wins as Bama (at least by rank) and their loss would not be as strong, but then, they'll have also beaten the team that beat Bama. However it stacks up, my bet would be that if you looked at two teams from the same conference and each had one loss, the one that won the championship is going to get in over the one that didn't even play in it.

 

Is your opinion that they would put Ole Miss and Bama in the playoff over the SEC champion with an equal number of losses?
