This. Announcer can and should do so without becoming the "center of attention".

 

I agree. It is not about the announcer, band, cheerleaders, fans or anyone else. It's about what's happening on the hardwood. Everything else is to enhance the experience. I do think the team in white deserves a home court advantage.

What happens if an announcer gets excited about the home team hitting a big shot to go up 1 with a few seconds left? Suppose he's been "warned" already?

 

FTs for the visiting team? Removal of the announcer from the gym?

That is interesting, I feel 100% the opposite about it. I think the PA's main job is to communicate information to all in attendance. Let the student section and the cheerleaders be responsible for pumping up the crowd. Just my opinion.

 

While i agree with you on this i still feel like it should not be a big deal if the announcer gets a little "in the moment" when a big shot goes down or the other teams player fouls out or for that matter when the opponet calls a TO when he feels the home team is making a run on them.

 

Most of the time these announcers are alumni of the school they annnounce for, or have some affaliation with the school (kids goes/plays there, possibly inviolved with another sport) so they will most likely take alot of pride in how their team performs. Granted some may take it over the top but iwould guess the majority dont harm anyone. If it gives the home team fans a feeling of home court advantage in my opnion Job Well Done :thumb:

 

Like Ive said before i would be extremely disappointed if i went to another school for a game and their announcer did not get excited for their team. If your are the visiting team thats something you just have to deal with. I honestily didnt know this was a big deal in high school basketball. Just a small part of the game.

Officials are to notify game management and they address as needed. Just like a fan problem.

Let's hope Kentucky high school basketball announcers don't have higher aspirations.
