Mayfield plays "up" all the time and wins many times. I'm not saying BW has to win this game but they need to be competitive in my eyes to be a legit contender at this point. I don't believe it's progress for a team to not only lose but not be competitive in these types of games. BW seems to only win the games that they are supposed to win these days.

 

Franklin County begs to differ on the only win games they are supposed to. Last year Beechwood beat a large D2 Ohio school (Lima Senior). The year before they beat 6A Dixie Heights. The year before that BW beat 6A Dixie and 6A Simon Kenton and beat the eventual 2A state champions (Holy Cross) 69-26. They have beaten New Cath a couple times, including the 2010 NCC state champion team.

It's an insinuation . Beechwood should be competitive in my opinion with Covington Catholic if they are in the running for the 1A title.

 

I agree with this. Beechwood plays these games to prepare themselves for the Mayfield/ state title game.

Mayfield doesn't do anything different than BE does.

I am of the opinion that this game with Cov Cath tells all a lot about Bw. A bad loss or close close, or a win all tell us a great deal about where Bw is right now

As has Mayfield, Beechwood has played up every game this year, and they beat Franklin County, a game that most thought Beechwood would lose. I doubt Mayfield has seen anything like Mt. Healthy, a top 5 Division 2 team in the state of Ohio, and by the way, Division 2 schools in Ohio are as big or bigger than 6A schools in KY. Sorry to burst your bubble, but Mayfield would provide about the same test to CovCath that Beechwood has the past several years.

 

Sorry to burst yours, but, actual results on the field says different. Mayfield has beaten Beechwood as bad as CC has the past few years, which pretty much tells me they'd be very competitive with them. Also, I'd take McCracken to beat Dixie by a couple of scores. Considering the rankings in every poll, I think most would agree. I think CC and McCracken would be a good game that could go either way, I'd probably favor McCracken by a field goal. I'd probably take CC over Belfry but would put the Pirates slightly ahead of Dixie. The Tigers need to play a competitive game to be considered any higher in the rankings, plain and simple.

Seeing both teams, I do think CovCath wins fairly comfortably (2-3 scores), but Beechwood will be better off for it. And, I wouldnt be surprised by a closer margin.

My gut is sayin CCH, but I would love for the Beechies to pull one off for 1A! I do think it might be closer than most expect though.

I've never liked comparing scores for that very reason, but, it's about the only barometer we have to go by in some cases.. I don't see too many Beechwood fans saying they should be behind Frankfort in the rankings and the reason, look at the score between a common opponent. I doubt the Tigers would proclaim that Beechwood just matched up better with Franklin. No, they feel that win proved they were better. Just like other scores in other situations make Mayfield feel like they could win or compete with other teams.. I know when Highlands was blowing out teams from the west in the title game these past several years, and, CC was playing them much closer, most people felt CC was the 2nd best team in the state in there class and the reason, they played them more competitively. I didn't hear too many people talking about how much better CC matched up with them or how a couple of turnovers spiraled the game or took them out of there typical style game. It was just assumed CC was better because they played them to a closer score. Like I said, I don't like comparing scores either, but, a lot of these folks in NKy use them with it makes them look better and wants them to be dismissed when it doesn't..

You people always think it's better football up there. Beechwood in the past several years can't hold a candle to Mayfield.

 

Call me crazy, but overall, from 1A-6A, it is better football up here.

Love this rivalry Tigers with the upset 28-21

This is a really bad week to be playing COVCATH (and New England). I will be very surprised if BW even scores (maybe late in the game when 2nd and 3rd string players are in). I smell a 42+ to zero beatdown coming!
