I am now a huge fan of the Blue Tornado from McCallie!

Better go all in ths! I dont think Barren or Logan Counties can help you.

Just got back from game. Wow! Congrats to Owensboro! Very good skill players, line players, well coached, and your QB is a star. He is smart, athletic and a real competitor. It was a tale of two halfs for sure. BG came out inspired in the second hakf and made the adjustments they had to. Great resiliency by BG - down on the road - never quit. I think Owensboro can go a long way this year.

Not sure why Tre Boards didnt play any safety tonight. I thought he was missed in defensive secondary tonight. Made 2 big picks against Lex Cath, but only backed up Carothers tonight because Jacob yates was injured against StX.

Survive and advance - thats what great teams do even if they dont have their best stuff on a given night.

Not official but TV Cameron Wallace may be out for season with blown out knee. Hope not true. Great kid. Hang in there!

Was at the game. Went down yelling and holding his knee. Looked to me that he was hit after the whistle. Once he got up he took a couple steps and went back down. Hope it's not as serious as it looked. He's a great kid and athlete. Would be a big loss.

Also, Jacob Yates didn't play tonight. Anyone know the reason? Injury?

I agree ThatPurple that the hit looked late to me too! Would be a huge loss as he and Cambell Gott have developed great chemistry this year and it would likely make #11 go both ways for us.

Jacob Yates was hit in the kidney last week vs X. He could have played I'm told but they held him out as a precautionary measure. Should be back next week, if he can beat out his teammate. Not so sure he can. We'll see.

I'll admit that I was wrong. Owensboro played them much closer than I thought they would. The Devils certainly benefited by the fact that BG turned the ball over 2 of their first 3 possessions setting them up on a short field. Bowling Green was a different team come the second half. Carothers put the Purples on his back and the O line was opening up major holes. Haven't seen a RB cut as well as he did tonight in a long time. Looks like he could play on Saturdays at a high level some day. Best game I have watched live since probably the Catholic / Murray playoff game at OC several years ago.

According to the guys on 102.7 radio, Carothers had 24 carries for 311 yards and 4TD. 11 yards in the 1st half and 300 yards and all 4 TD's after the half. And I hear that he is only a Soph?

I was sitting close to the BG sideline. He spent the rest of the game with a large bag of ice on his left knee and seemed to be in quite a bit of pain. Radio guys says that after the game he was being helped to the locker room and wasn't putting any weight on his leg.

I was just going to say that I think he is a sophomore.

388 yds offense oboro

505 for bg led by carrothers big runs in 2nd half

Don't know how anyone other than T fans can not be rooting for BG to keep it going! Oboro was tough but BG found a way, as champions will.

Congrats on the win. Seeing scores like this, at least make me feel good about X's defense.

Glad I decided to go watch this one. Great game by two great programs. Owensboro put up one heck of a fight just lacked the superior athletic ability BG had coupled with some untimely turnovers. BG did what good teams do and that's find a way to win in a hostile environment. Nice football atmosphere last night

I don't have the exact figure yet, but Carothers DID set a new record for rushing yardage for one game at BGHS last night!! The old record was 269 yards (in ten attempts) by senior David Moore in 1975 (I was a junior that year) at the Hallowed Ground against Christian County. Yes, Carothers is a sophomore, 5-7, 165 lbs (I was that size as a center back in the day!!). He wears a very distinguished number for running backs at BGHS, #23. Spud Byrd (we were both seniors in 1976) was 1st Team All State with C-J and AP and set our all time rushing yardage record that still stands to this day with 1724 yards. Spud's son, Brian Harpool, also wore that number as the main running back for the late Coach Haley's 1995 3A Champs.

Carothers' four rushing TDs was one shy of the record for one game set in 2001 by Aaron Johnson against Paducah Tilghman at the Hallowed Ground in the second round of the First Region Playoffs. He's the back I talked about in an earlier thread who gained over 100 yards in mop-up duty in one game last year as a freshman. I knew that he was going to be a special player, but I had no idea that it would be this soon! With both him and Yates toting the mail, the Purples' ground game will be very hard to stop by anybody else left on the schedule this fall!
