Scott 31 Newport 14

Featured Replies

I just don't get it. No disrespect to Scott, as I am sure they are a good football team, but how does beating a mediocre 2A football team make you a "legit contender" or a "very good team"?

Again no disrespect to them just asking is it more they pass the eye test or what?

It doesn't. However, this was a game, most though Scott would either lose, or barely win. I think (and like I've been saying all year), Despite losing a very good senior class, Scott is better than people thought they were going to be. I also think that Newport isn't as good as people were giving them credit for. Remember, people were talking about Newport not losing a game the rest of the year, and being a top 2A team. If they beat Cooper in two weeks (who looks like the real deal), and can stay healthy, they will have a good chance to host and win a playoff game. I still think South Oldham is the best team in the district.

People this isn't your typical Scott team. Dan Wooley and staff have done a very good job of getting those kids in Taylor Mill to buy in. Scott isn't going to be the team you smash by 50 or 60pts any more. Is Scott going to win state.............no way! I can see them winning a few games in the playoffs and building on what they are doing. Keep it up Eagles!!!!:thumb:

Is Scott still running a version of the single wing?

Also if they are running wedge the G doesn't chip to LB. You block your own OL pushing them forward and creating a V or wedge.

Anyone following NKY football should know that Scott is not the team that it once was. Based on the players they have now and the younger talent coming up, they will only get better.

Anybody have a picture of Scotts uniforms?

Look he's solid. He could be great. But if he was commanding that much attention, the LB's and 5 technique would have been free. You can't triple team a nose and not get outnumbered elsewhere, unless your others players just can't play. Also, In that blocking scheme, you can't double the nose on the wedge play against an odd front. The guard chips the nose, and moves to the LB. If you double or triple the nose, the LB's are free to make the tackle, especially if they read the guard blocking down. You ask what would constitute a good game?? If he was manhandling everybody, Scott wouldn't have had over 200 yards rushing. He would have made more than a handful of tackles, and made at least a few in the backfield. He was not a factor in this game, sorry. And once again, he failed to even come off the ball a few times each series, which is what he has done since youth football. He simply takes too many plays off while on the field, not even coming hard off the snap, to really impact games.

Newport has a very good Team they didn't play at there best last night they should of beet Scott and again about the Johnson boy I have watch Him from youth and up He is a Very Good Player

I agree, Johnson is a good player. He's got potential to be great, but for whatever reason, consistent greatness hasn't happened. He certainly wasn't the best player on the field last night.

I do disagree that Newport should have beaten Scott last night. Aside from the 1st drive that Newport had, Scott controlled every aspect of the game. Scott's offensive and defensive line, running backs, defense and special teams were all better than Newport's plus they had more depth. The only position I think Newport is clearly better at is the QB position. Yes, Newport made plenty of mistakes, especially in the punting game, but Scott forced many of those mistakes, and took advantage of them when Newport made them. Those two teams could play 10 times, and Scott would win all of them.

You say you have been following this child since peewee. you also have been criticizing him since peewee. I can go way back an show you have more negative things to say about him than any other person on BGP. Do you have a child that plays and do other people flat out try to destroy him? I can`t believe members of BGP go along with you like it is a joke. I don`t know what your motive is behind you constant jabs but you would think it would stop eventually. I promise other coaches around NKY do not feel the same way you do or he would not make the Allstar teams yearly. I want thank the adults who are positive and supportive.

All roads run through NCC...I know that! Dont ever count out NCC. Lloyd looks great.

I've got nothing against the kid. He's a talent, and this isn't the first time I've said that. He's a next level player if he can become more consistent. I'm not the one that created or made any of this stuff up, and while I appreciate that you think I have the pull to make others believe everything I say, trust me, I'm not nearly that influential:stop: My statements have been echoed by other observers and coaches that I've spoken with both on and off BGP. I've also never said he didn't deserve any of the awards of accolades he's been given. Those awards are legitimate, and any award he's won, he most likely deserves. Period. However, what I do disagree with is how many people build him up, while ignoring the obvious. Telling him he does no wrong isn't helping him get better or take that next step, which he DOES have the ability to do. To say he dominated last nights game just isn't true. Newport gave up nearly 300 yards of rushing last night. And that's on the Newport front 7, of which he is the best player. He's a high profile player....criticism is part of that, not just the accolades. I hope he continues to improve, and his career lasts much, much longer. I'd be happy to say sometime in the future if he does make it on a bigger stage that I got to watch him play and grow up on the football field.

And to your point about me being the most negative, that's simply not true. Take a look at some of these threads..

There are quite a few with questions about him. And in every post I've ever made, I've also always said he has next level talent.

He will make it to the next level
