Scott 31 Newport 14

Just for your info #71 Gage Tucker who is only 14 blew Johnson up quite a bit last night so how old is Johnson again? I look to see bigger and better futures for Gage and Ron Rice. Those boys play and start both sides of the ball and you never see them taking plays off. I give credit to the conditioning from Scotts coaching.

I think that was the problem at Holmes.

They can not take Johnson on 1 on 1 so what does that tell you he has to be doubled or tripled team every Game

Any D-lineman worth his salt should be able to handle a double team. Many times at the point of attack, the D-lineman gets doubled. Triple teams rarely happen, except maybe in pass blocking where a back may help out. Logistically it's tough to get the center/guard/tackle all together on 1 guy. Not to mention tripling would leave 2 other guys free to make a tackle.

He was beat by #70 and #71 on the one on one many times. When your a big guy you should expect to be double or triple teamed its nature of the game had he been better conditioned he would be able to overcome those adversities. By your senior year he should already have it.

Johnson is way better then Ronald Rice and #71 you got him mixed up with somebody else His name keeps coming out of your alls mouth so hes got you all Scared

scared are you serious, I don't think Scott came out or ever became scared of that boy. And we respect the Johnson kid but don't agree on who's better. The scoreboard spoke for itself who's the better and more talented team of the two

I think its sad that this post got to this point where we are talking about one player on Newport. As a team they did not play well at all. Scott came out ready to handle business and I think played ok. They still have things to work out as well on the defenive side of the ball but they are a young team and I think really fun to watch. I am glad things are turning out well and Dan has done a great job with the program and things will only get better for the Eagles. Also all this talk about Johnson from Newport he will be playing at the next level and when he gets the college coaching I believe you will see great things from him but thats just my opinion.

Here is an article in todays paper about Scott and the win friday talking about line play figured since most of the talk in this thread was about lineman I would throw this in. :thumb: Also there is a nice pic of Scott's new look.

Both lines play big role in Scott's win

They were interviewed by a few other media sources I hear.

At Scott its about team we are all about team each night u will see a new player come alive.

Friday night was a bunch of kids making small contributions that led to big things. They have lots of weapons and good coaches. That is a recipe for success.

I don't think conditioning at Holmes was the problem...Holmes is a well conditioned team... Johnson is at his heaviest I have ever seen him at... If he got beat in double or triple team still I would be firing him and the linebackers... Just my personal opinion...

but he wasn't. You can't expect a nose guard to make a tackle every play. I've seen him blow the center back almost every play. And when Newports D Line shifted to the strong side he stoped the fb snap better then anybody Scott has played yet.

Statistically that's not true. Scott gained 60 yards on the 10 times they ran the wedge play, and scored 2 touchdowns. For the season, they've averaged right at about 6 yards per carry on that play. Again, Newport gave up 300 yards rushing. Nobody on Newports front seven had a really good game.

That being said, in looking at the game on film, Johnson looked very good on the offensive side of the ball. He was able to get to the next level regularly, and moved and blocked really well. He does move very well for a guy his size. Newport had success running behind him on the first two drives, but then for some reason, just stopped doing it.
