BluegrassPreps.com Kentucky Class 3A Football Rankings for 9-8

Wut?

You mean higher than Corbin? Southwestern is 5A.

Right now I am buying the South Warren hype and think they are in the Top 5. My reasoning is solely about Warren East if nothing else. WE has defeated Barren County (who took down previously ranked Glasgow) and Monroe County (Previously ranked in 3A). South Warren crushed WE.. I have no problem saying that is a quality win.

For sure! South Warren blew out Warren East who then blew out Barren and Monroe county.... IMO these rankings are partial to teams in Northern and Eastern, KY... Until that changes we will always get the same results... I would love to see those teams come to southern and western KY to play these teams consistently... Then we will see how good Wayn County and Corbin really are....

South Warren is going to struggle to gain respect until they show some quality wins beyond Warren East. You claim to want to play Wayne Co. on the heels of Wayne Co. destroying the same Paducah Tilghman team that knocked your Spartans out. And that Paducah team was hardly an elite team, posting an 8-6 record. South's one venture into 6A resulted in a loss to a 6-5 Daviess Co. team. Their best "name" victories are over a 5-7 Ft. Campbell team, a quality win over a 10-3 1A Russellville team, and a quality win over an 8-4 Monroe Co. team. At the end of the day, South is going to have to push to the Finals in my mind to get some real respect. 3A is in the West WAY down this year with Central and Paducah both showing that they are not their normal powerhouses. If South makes it to the carpet, then I think we'll all say that they have lived up to the hype (and the enrollment advantage), but anything shy of that and we're all going to continue to regard them much like we would a small yappy dog,

Not sure I agree with that.

There are no NKY teams in 3A. Bourbon is probably the closest thing to NKY (and that is a stretch) and it is hard to argue against a team who has been probably the 2nd or 3rd best team in the class the past two years.

Belfry is by far the clear cut #1 thusfar.

Bell County has been a fixture at the top of 3A and returned essentially their entire team and have been impressive thusfar.

Corbin is the only team who has not sustained previous success or posted a signature win. Even then Southwestern is a quality 5A team this year.

Also let's not forget that the West Representative has came from the same region all but 1 time since the 6 Class System... Tilghman is the only team from Region 1 to reach the Finals and that so happened to be the one of Central's weakest teams and prior to realignment as well. For as good as South Warren was last year they still lost in the Quarter's to Tilghman who in turn got obliterated at home against Wayne County.

Paducah Tilghman is 0-3 and ranked #7. South Warren is ranked #6. Monroe County just fell out this week after being hyped as a potential Top 5 club in the preseason. Who else in western Kentucky should be ranked? Fort Campbell? Trigg County? Edmonson County?

From what I have seen of PT #7 may be too generous as well. This is the smallest I have seen a PT team up front and they don't seem to have much depth at all. They have played a sensational schedule though and deserve respect for what they have accomplished in the past, but what I have watched of them I think they will struggle with any 3A team with size.

Look, why argue with a guy who wants to bring JV and Freshman results into a varsity ranking? Why argue with a guy who says South Warren competes very well at every level with Bowling Green when the FACT is they have never stepped on the field with each other at any level in football for a game. They have played two 7-7 games in the last 2 years. (both of which were won by BG)

The 3A picture will clear up a little this weekend after Corbin plays Danville on the road, South Warren plays E-Town and Bell Co. plays Middlesboro.

Corbin's only losses last year came on the road to Wayne Co. and Bell Co. and they have 23 seniors on the roster, but they have a new coach and are learning a new offense and defense, so it's way too early to judge them. I really don't know much about South Warren, maybe they should be rated higher, but as a few have pointed out on here, they do not have much on their resume yet to be able to get a a gauge on them either.

Honestly, is this the most "down" 3A Top 10 in a long time?

Comparing Paducahs team last year to this years team is nuts, so saying how they are 0-3 and comparing a South Warren loss to them last year to another team beating them this year means nothing.

Is 2014 South Warren better than 2013 South Warren?

Is 2014 South Warren better than 2013 South Warren?

Umm that's a hard question. Last year South didn't give up a point through the first four games and allowed 3 total through the first 6 games. Through the first 3 games South has given up 17 points yes 7 was against the JV and Freshman in the last minute of the East Game. Last years defense for the Year allowed 223 Rushing Yards and 792 passing yards for the entire year according to Stats on Riherds Scoreboard. To date South has already allowed 429 Rushing Yards but only 181 Passing yards on Defense. So based on Stats the Defense was better last year at this point.

The Points they put up this year are almost exactly the same as last year at this point.

2014 Warren East 34 - 14, Logan County 52 - 0, Greenwood 35 - 3 compared to 2013 which was

Score of East 35 -0 , Logan County 50 - 0, Greenwood 38 - 0.

So as you can see its almost the same scores.

The big difference to me is the offense is much more mobile and more threatening than last years. They are using more players and have more people involved Allen has 6 rushing TD and 311 yards rushing, Litten has 5 rushing TD's and 383 yards rushing and Namvong (sp) has 1 TD rushing and 186 yards rushing the others are less than 100 yards rushing. So they are using more on offense than they did last year. So I guess the defense came back a little bit but the offense is much improved over last year.

I think they are maybe a little bit more fundamentally sound than last years team.

You were the one talking about WKY not getting respect and what would happen if more teams came down there to play them.

3A football in western Kentucky is down this year compared to past years. Tilghman was expected to continue their role as the dominant WKY program and it just hasn't happened.

Fort Campbell and Trigg County have both been hurt by the bump to Class 3A. Russellville could very well compete in Class 3A, District 2 every year but with Mayfield bumping to Class 2A for the next cycle, they are foolish to play up like they did several years ago.

South Warren is the closest thing to a sure bet when it comes to making a deep playoff run but head scratching losses to Tilghman and Monroe the past two seasons has kept them out of the long-term discussion.

In my view, Caldwell County makes the jump to Class 3A at the perfect time. Both South Warren and Monroe leave Class 3A and Trigg, Fort Campbell, and Tilghman are all down.

Is 2014 South Warren better than 2013 South Warren?

I would say yes but not by much... Overall the team is deeper and more experienced then last years team, but as I have stated before, it is near impossible to recreate that magic they had defensively last year. That being said; their offense is much improved and much more balanced. Most games they are doing whatever they can to not run up the score vs last years team would have many games where you didnt know if their offense could even get into the end zone. I bet if you go back and looked at last years team, many of their points were scored by a short field created by their defense or the defense scoring themselves...

Is Etown in the 11 to 15 ranking range? Saw they were not ranked at the beginning post of this thread, but thought they were supposed to be pretty improved this year. Playing a ranked team and beating them on the road would clearly help SWarren move up.
