Who is too high? Too low? Missing in action?

My only exception because I think there are about 7-8 teams that are pretty close:

 

Mason County

Defeated Boyd County 25-6

Defeated Rowan County 26-6

 

Lawrence County:

Defeated Boyd County 47-25 (led 40-11 in the 3rd)

Defeated Rowan County 54-29 (led 40-7 early in 3rd)

 

Same common opponent... one team required 4 Quarters to Win...the other had it well in hand in the 3rd Quarter

Mason's ranking may have much to do with the fact that they've been very successful even without their quarterback and perhaps when he returns the team should easily be considered #7 (or whatever).

I was a little surprised to see Wayne County stay in the top 10, although to be fair they lost close games to good teams in North Laurel and Garrard County.

 

I think the Elizabethtown/South Warren game this weekend should give us a much stronger view of both teams in relation to the rest of Class 3A.

That may well be true, but there isn't anything on South Warren's resume right now as good as Corbin's win over Southwestern. Now come Friday night, if South Warren beats Elizabethtown, then we can talk about Top 5.

You have got to be kidding me right??? That is laughable! And who has Southwestern beat? Somerset and North Hardin?? Lost to Corbin and almost lost to Gerrard County.... South Warren plays and competes with teams like Bowling Green, Warren Central, Monroe, and Franklin Simpson at every level but Varsity... Those teams are far superior then Southwestern and many other teams listed ahead of them...

These are varsity rankings, not JV or Freshmen. Right now South Warren has wins over Warren East (decent 4A program), Greenwood (middling 5A program), and Logan County (awful 5A program). Nobody is saying South Warren isn't good; I even said a win over Elizabethtown this weekend would make me reconsider these rankings. But claiming your ranking should be higher because you play good teams in JV doesn't hold water.

I point out them playing, competing, and beating them at middle school, high school, and JV levels because they are competive against some of the best 5A and 4A teams/ talent in the State up until varsity. Other than Monroe, they don't play any of those teams at the varsity level. But if they did, they would be competitive as well. Pou

Point I am making is that they beat mediocre 4A and 5A teams this year at the Varsity level, they have beaten good 4A aand 5A squads up to this level, so what makes you think they shouldnt be ranked higher than a mediocre 3A Southwestern team? 1 and 1 is not adding up to 2 my friend...

1906, what is the argument? That South Warren should be ahead of Corbin in the #5 spot? If so, then I think they have a good case. I see Corbin and South Warren as a pick-em for that spot, and either team could make a claim for it. I disagree with you that JV and Frosh results should have any bearing on Varsity rankings, but that is a debate for another day. At the end of the day, arguing over 1 spot in the top 10 poll after 3 games, that is a pretty good position to be in and not much to argue about really.

 

I can't speak for the BGP rankings team but sometimes when you have two teams to rank, choosing between the two comes down to "quality wins". At this point, Corbin's best win trumps South's best win, in my opinion.

 

To get respect, especially for a new program, you have to go out and earn it on the field against quality opponents. South Warren's schedule doesn't really offer them a lot of opportunities to do that. They have Etown this week, and then they won't get another chance to prove themselves again until the last couple of weeks of the season against Monroe and Russellville. And Monroe is struggling right now so that game may not be competitive. Corbin on the other hand has beaten Southwestern (like it or not, a pretty good 5A team) and they still have Danville, Wayne County, Bell County and Knox Central on the schedule. Everyone will get a clear picture of how good or bad Corbin is because they have challenged themselves with their scheduling. South Warren has not, although they did lose to Daviess County last season, so you never know.

Right now I am buying the South Warren hype and think they are in the Top 5. My reasoning is solely about Warren East if nothing else. WE has defeated Barren County (who took down previously ranked Glasgow) and Monroe County (Previously ranked in 3A). South Warren crushed WE.. I have no problem saying that is a quality win.

Same here. I think South Warren has a very legitimate claim as a top five team. And as I've said in two posts, they will have an even stronger claim after Friday night if they beat Elizabethtown.
