August 28, 201412 yr My somewhat unfair speculation as to why Shaw would lie: 1. He was at a place he wasn't supposed to be. 2. The place he was at could have been a lot of things, but there probably aren't many scenarios where it's going to be good if it comes out. My guesses: - he was at an apartment that is linked to an agent or someone similar, - he was at his own place that is in someone else's name, - he was at a place where valuables were stored (or even, worst case, stashed), someone robs it, and now questions are being asked, - he was in a situation where someone else heard a commotion and called police but he wouldn't have done so himself (which could have been for a number of reasons, from his own illegal acts in the eyes of the law or team or NCAA)
August 28, 201412 yr His problem now is that he's generated so much media interest with his lies that the media will be on the prowl. They will find out the truth and he will pay for it.
August 28, 201412 yr Shaw messed up, he has acknowledged it, do you really need to jump on here feigning offense?
August 28, 201412 yr So was he beating up his girlfriend or the girlfriend beating up on him. Ive heard both.
August 28, 201412 yr Shaw messed up' date=' he has acknowledged it, do you really need to jump on here feigning offense?[/quote'] He only acknowledged it when he was found to be lying.
August 28, 201412 yr He only acknowledged it when he was found to be lying. Same as ESPN on Sam in the shower. They only acknowledged it when they found it was stupid. So we shouldnt post any more on this, he said sorry, thats all we need.
August 28, 201412 yr Still on the team? USC feels he's worth the circus? He's one of only 2 CBs with experience. The other 6 on the roster are freshmen. Don't doubt for a second that they won't factor that in if there's any kind of wiggle room given.
August 28, 201412 yr I truly hate to admit it, because it shows how jaded I have become - but I am with sportsfan41. When I first heard the story, a big dose of doubt hit me that I am not sure I believe it. Something just didn't ring true. In this day and age more than ever, tell the truth. If it is bad, tell the truth and face the consequences. With technology everywhere and every move on camera, the truth is going to come out. This guy made up the story to cover himself with coaches, then it gets out, goes viral and becomes a lie that is out of control. Tell the truth - own your actions.

That situation has been reported to be domestic abuse, although unsure if that's true.

Stupid thing is, had he told the truth, it may have all been concealed by USC to the national or potentially local scene.
August 28, 201412 yr The NYT also talked to an LAPD police spokesperson, Lt. Andrew Neiman, who said the police want to speak with Shaw: "At this point, it’s a burglary investigation," Neiman said. "A lot of things can change. At this point there is no property missing, but we’ll follow up with the victim. Or it may turn out to be a trespass, or domestic violence, or it could be a big nothing, no crime, just people who were arguing and a scream was heard."
