Featured Replies

For the record, when to Qdoba for lunch today with 5 orders. Walked in, 2 people in front of me, in less than 5 minutes all 5 orders done, paid and out the door.

No wonder most BGP posters are morbidly obese. Try having a bare bones salad and an apple sometime! And put down the mouse and do something!

Who you calling obese?!! :taz:

Me, I did have chips and salsa with my burrito.

An assembly line is perfectly designed to handle multiple orders which is why that model is being used in a fast foot restaurant; I would guess it's manpower that is lacking in these situations.

For a point of discussion...most assembly lines are constructed using a "one-piece flow" mentality. Reasoning for this is to allow balance of tasks within the line and to throw a quality flag with the first non-conformance rather than the xth depending on the batch size.

SO, I will have to assert that a fast food restaurant is specifically not designed to handle large "batch" orders.

Today it was yes, should have worn my bgp shirt today.

About two weeks ago I pull in Wendy's got get something at lunch time and I hear the guy in front of me state that he had 25 separate orders from the hospital. Attendant told him to bring the order in. What kind of knucklehead tries to get 25 orders at the drive-thru during lunch rush?

More importantly... What hospital was he from, just thinking I might consider staying away from there.

So, if I walk in and order 25 things without having to look at any notes and pay for them all together, am I a multi-orderer, or just a regular orderer with a big appetite?

I guess that depends. Are you ordering a straight up Big Mac or one without cheese, two without pickle, no salt on half the fries, etc....

I used to be a server, & I used to work at the busiest SBUX I Louisville. I can remember and rattle off a slew of different orders after just hearing them one time.:D

I'd classify you as a "regular" orderer.

The reason why the problem exists with one person doing 5 or more orders, is that they're unsure of what exactly is supposed to be on everything EVEN IF THEY HAVE NOTES. Did they want their sub toasted or not? "Oh, gee, they didn't really say anything about that. Hmmmm. Let me see...oh, let's go ahead and toast it. No, no...let's not toast it. Because if they would've wanted it toasted, they would've said so. So...no toasting." For anyone else, it's "yes" or "no". Then, move on.

Plus, paying all at once versus 25 individual transactions? A lot of time saved there.

Was this English. You lost me at "one piece flow." But I think I agree assembly line in restaurant is not good for multiple orders by one person.
