August 19, 201412 yr Matters 0. The DOJ and Holder will be there and you can bet charges will be filed. Not talking about filed. I'm talking about a conviction.
August 19, 201412 yr Author God I hate the Klan. I also hate Al Sharpton. These two are cut from the same piece of cloth. No argument there.
August 20, 201412 yr So....you still think all this? Where in all those quotes did I attack the police. I stated I didn't think the guy was an innocent victim. I just stated if witness account was true then police should be prosecuted. I never stated one way or the other in any post that I was sold the cop was guilty.
August 20, 201412 yr Armed police: Trigger happy | The Economist I don't know where else to put this, but it's worth thinking about. I don't profess to know a solution, but when you look at such a stark difference between comparatively similar countries you have to think something about our culture in the US is corrupted. To be fair the UK also doesn't have the gang violence we have. That is from biker gangs , street gangs such as the Bloods Crips Latin kings and jail house gangs like black guerrilla family , arayan brotherhood and Mexican Mafia. Our country has so many criminal groups the cops are left little choice most the time.
August 20, 201412 yr It would only take one person to speak up and then sides are chosen and then the fight would begin. Had a discussion about this with one of my best friends who happens to be black yesterday. We both agreed there is a powder keg about to explode. There are a lot of poor and lower middle class white people who feel like minorities get to many favors and advantages and there are a lot of poor and lower middle class minorities who feel white people holding them down. People who don't see it just don't live or interact in those world's.
August 20, 201412 yr How are they similar in laws and gun control? Murder rate? Serious assaults? Not hard to figure out that less people will be shot by police in a country where most police are unarmed. Guns are far less prevalent in the UK in general as far as I know. The purpose of comparing similarly situated countries is to assess the effects of policies and outcomes that vary between the countries. If broadly similar countries have wildly different amounts of violence to the point that the police don't need to carry guns in one country, then drilling down to the cause of those different outcomes should be illuminating if you're interested in reducing violence and violence against the police.

"Where in that quote did" did I say that? Guilty conscience?
August 20, 201412 yr "Where in that quote did" did I say that? Guilty conscience? If it wasn't your intent then I apologize. But I still don't think we know for sure what happened yet . So like day one I'm holding judgement and not rushing to a decision
August 20, 201412 yr Agree 100% if he wasn't armed he shouldn't of been shot. Cop should be prosecuted. My point was just reading the article and people making him out to be a saint. If he shop lifted then I'm not buying it. Just a terrible situation. Agreed. Kids make bad decisions . Most of them shouldn't end fatal. If story is true sounds like a nervous itchy trigger finger . I just hope no riots happen. If it wasn't your intent then I apologize. But I still don't think we know for sure what happened yet . So like day one I'm holding judgement and not rushing to a decision Sure didn't look like you were "holding judgement" to me....
August 20, 201412 yr Common sense says that in this day and age, a cop isn't going to just execute a criminal, much less in the street, in broad day light. It's real life. He's some beat cop from a small MO department, he's not Vic Mackey Read my post on page 34 (Post #670) about the officer in San Antonio. Dude was a complete idiot and not indicative of all police officers, but in my line of work, I see more than one or two officers who seem to be drawn to the job for the wrong reasons. I've also had a mentally handicapped client put in the hospital by police before (though I don't blame them in initially hitting him, but I think they could have done it without putting him in the hospital... he accidentally went into the wrong house because he didn't know any better, but it was probably fairly easy to tell he was in the wrong one fairly quick... I wasn't representing him on that matter, but was just told I couldn't interview him for what I was representing him for because he was in the hospital). Just like there are good police, there are bad ones. What's happening now is that incidents like these are occurring and getting publicized and people think it's indicative of all police officers when it isn't.

If broadly similar countries have wildly different amounts of violence to the point that the police don't need to carry guns in one country, then drilling down to the cause of those different outcomes should be illuminating if you're interested in reducing violence and violence against the police. If I'm interested in reducing violence and violence against police? Who wouldn't be interested in that? My point was that the two countries are not all that similar in the ways your article is trying to compare them.
August 20, 201412 yr Sure didn't look like you were "holding judgement" to me.... Picking and choosing my comments . I understand your upset with me because of my belief of the police becoming to much like the military I stand by that comment. But I've been consistent from the start on this case . I didn't buy the fact this guy was an innocent victim , but I also stated "if" he was shot with his hands raised then the cop should be persecuted. I never asserted this to be fact just what result should happen if it were true. If the story you posted about the eye socket is true then I'm leaning toward the cop . I'm a strong 2nd ammendment person and whether you have a badge or not does not change the fact you have a right to defend yourself if your life is threatened.
August 20, 201412 yr To be fair, London may not have guns, but over there, an "Irish Car Bomb" isn't a shot of Kahlua dropped into a pint of Guinness. I did study abroad in London and the day I got there was 7/7/05. Look that one up for some perspective. 52 civilians killed and 700 injured in subway bombings. Those were one of the worst attacks of the decade there, but it put things in perspective to me.
August 20, 201412 yr If I'm interested in reducing violence and violence against police? Who wouldn't be interested in that? My point was that the two countries are not all that similar in the ways your article is trying to compare them. Article also left out that if you want to live in the UK you will be a lot less free. Freedom of speech doesn't exist. Listen if you want to be free there are risks. But I will take my chances in the most free country this world has ever known.
August 20, 201412 yr If I'm interested in reducing violence and violence against police? Who wouldn't be interested in that? My point was that the two countries are not all that similar in the ways your article is trying to compare them. I'm just explaining why it's common to compare similar countries to determine the efficacy of different policies. The UK and the US are peers so why does one have outcome X and the other have outcome Y? Figuring out what accounts for those differences in otherwise similar countries is a good way of figuring out how to improve outcomes.
