If the preseason rankings are anything I do not see the "Sleeping Giant" in the top ten..... I am pretty sure the Football knowledge of this site know more than some of us! I am just wondering when or if South will break the top ten. If they are going to be as good as some think then why no ranking? Just saying...

Ok some of you knew it was only time before I put my comment on this. So here it goes for what it's worth.

South lost a ton last year, leadership, experience, their head coach, and a lot of other coaches. With that said there not going to drop as much as most think.

 

Question is qb. Will King and the new offense be as good or better than what they have had in the past. My understanding the offense will not be as conservative as in the past.

I don't think Smiths defense will miss a beat. Colton and McElwain will pick up where Chaffin and Wilken left off. They return Hubbard on the line. I thin the defensive ends will be fine. Question is who will step up for Middelton and will he be as big of an impact player.

 

Looking at their schedule I think they will have trouble with Monroe and Russellville. I the first game of the year will tell us a lot with East. So my thoughts is they will be 7 and 3 at worst And may be even better depending on how they react to and buy into Smiths program.

I don't know who it will be, but with all respect to whoever it is, I think pretty much the answer is no as to whether they'll make as big an impact. You don't just replace an SEC player like that. Even if Middleton wasn't making the play, he commanded attention that allowed other players to make plays. If there was no dropoff anywhere else that would still be a huge hit. I personally expect South Warren's defense to be more in line with 2012, when they were strong at allowing just over 11 PPG, but not putting up an eye-popping number like last year's ridiculous 4.3 PPG.

I completely agree with you on Middleton. I don't think they will completely replace him. However if there defense falls back in line with 2012 and there offense improves over last year they will be more balanced.

 

I don't think they are going to be as bad as some think but I also don't think they are near what last years team was. I think though it's early to try and judge them with so many changes.

 

As I said earlier we will no more when they play East.

Last year will be the best team that South Warren puts on the field for a long time. They had 4 legitimate All State players on the same team and couldn't make it out of the west in a weak class. Powerhouse I tell you!

But to act like the offense will be massively improved (although they were not fun to watch and plodding at times, SW was still sixth in scoring in its class IIRC) and the defense won't miss a lick (after holding teams to a ridiculous less than 1 TD per game)?

 

Yeah, people are gonna be skeptical. One good regular season and a postseason flameout (when more was expected based on that dominating regular season) does not earn SW a pass on skepticism/criticism.

Now BG on the other hand? Purples have proven they can reload. Against tougher schedules. In a tougher class.

All dislike for south aside, they will be competitive! And they could make a run deep with the talent they have returning. I would not put them on the look past list!,,,

Looks like I was right about Bowling Green and South Warren.... South Warrens offense has opened up and is passing A LOT more. Look to be more balanced then last years team and potentially as good because of their much improved offense. Bowling Green looks EXACTLY like a team should that lost as much as they did. AVERAGE!!! Whoever brought up BGHS not missing a beat because of what they did in 2012 missed that boat COMPLETELY.... Looks like they got WHITEWASHED tonight! If you need the definition, I can remind you. LOL!

We are not talking about the past, we are talking about the present, but to answer your question.... The same amount Bowling Green had in their 4th year of having a Varsity Football team. BGHS did not get their first Championship until 1999, and they have had varsity football what 60-70 years???

Poor point to make. No need to go back and forth with a delusional fan. South will be good, but not great this year. After all, they primarily pulled from Greenwood who was never a football powerhouse.
