What I think is funny is that many people are ranking BGHS and Warren Central at the top of their Regions in their class when both of those teams loss much more then South Warren... Even articles being written about their Recievers being top in the state that have barely made a varsity reception... Seems a little biased.... But hey what do I know. At the end of the day, we will see when the season starts.

 

Bowling Green has something South Warren couldn't possibly have yet - the reputation of reloading. They did this dance in 2012 after losing a massive senior class and went right back to state. They've had four seasons since 1988 where they didn't win 10 games. Bowling Green has earned the right to be trusted, especially when we know they have the talent.

 

Warren Central had six seniors that saw the field out of a total of eight that dressed. 3 of them were two way players so in total they represented nine starting positions. One of those didn't even hardly see the field until roughly 7-8 games in when injury necessitated it (Conn). Warren Central didn't lose as many seniors, didn't lose as many starters, and especially didn't lose as much experience. Obviously they did have more staff turnover. But for the record, I have advised caution on them because of unknowns in much the same way. They have an entirely new offensive scheme and entirely new coaching staff. You just don't know until you see them play against live competition.

Since a lot of South is made up from Greenwood....sounds about right!

And if you think that what BGHS has now is anything near what they lost, you are COMPLETELY kidding yourself..... The leadership toughness and grit that they lost from several positions will not be replaced this year by any means. They will have a winning season, but this is NOT a championship caliber team. No undefeated records this year. I will bet a steak dinner on that for sure!

 

Warren Central will be better this year then they were last year and I will go as far as saying this year that they should beat BGHS. Better system, got some nice transfers, less players going both ways will all lead to a more productive season.

 

South Warren will take their lumps early on, but they will be a better overall TEAM this year. They got a new offensive coordinator that actually wants to run more than 3 plays. Their Junior class is ready to explode on the sesson this year.

They can still finish 2nd in the weak 3a district they play in. Many of the games will be more of a struggle though and playoff wins will be. .... Tougher.

Now let's not go overboard. Trigg isn't coming into Bowling Green and taking a game from South Warren. They just lost basically as much or more than South Warren, from a team that wasn't as good as South Warren. 3 year starter at QB, 2 year leading rusher, and 12 seniors from a roster that wasn't exactly brimming with numbers.

Didn't South Warren only lose to Daviess last year til the playoffs? Who all do the Spartans play this season? Do they play Daviess again? How bad did they beat Monroe?

South Warren's schedule this season is a perfect mirror of last year, and yes, Daviess County was their only loss. And even that is hard for me to figure. I still wonder if they got caught peeking ahead to their big game against Monroe the following week.

 

South Warren put a running clock on Monroe County last season en route to a 53-8 victory, but that was also a wild swing from the regular season meeting the season before where Monroe County won 41-0 (though it was just 20-10 in the playoffs when they met). The point being that a lot can change in a season depending on the personnel. But more than that South Warren was PRIMED for that game against Monroe. The Spartans embarrassed themselves in that 2012 regular season meeting and unleashed a lot of pent up rage all over Monroe County.

 

In post 12 of this thread I listed the teams they play. Russellville will be good again, which was their closest game last season other than their loss. Monroe County will be significantly better than they were. Elizabethtown and Warren East will be better than they were last season.

E'town didn't have a whole lot of seniors last year.

 

Returns a 1,500-yard back in Berneil Cecil (a sophomore last year).

Also returns its leading tackler, both QBs (Hunter Sullivan is a D-I baseball recruit, Jack Wilson is starting baseball third baseman), all of its receiving threats.

 

And oh year, hired Mark Brown. Mark has a LOT of guys who have been with him in the past. I think only one E'town assistant is back from last year and he wasn't a coordinator.

 

Plus, South Warren comes to E'town this year on the turf (where E'town practices daily).

Given the changes in the two teams (what SW lost compared to what E'town lost), changes in the coaching staffs (E'town getting Brown) and change in location (this time at E'town on turf), I'd say the chances of SW "whitewashing" E'town again in 2014 like they did in 2013 aren't as likely.

 

SW is still the favorite in that game. But it could be a push or a toss-up if SW enters thinking it will be a mirror-image of what happened last year.
