I wonder if Ally did not need to pass that much, or was told not to pass that much, because there really wasn't anyone else at that caliber on that team?? I'm just saying that I've seen that happen to kids in high school. People don't think a player is a good passer because she scores so much. Then when they get to college, they are good passers because they have options to pass to.

Also, just being the Devil's Advocate here, but do you think Scott is "overcompensating" for the loss? They took a big hit, so to cover their frustrations, are making a bigger deal out of their "excitement"? Don't know what is really going on, but thought I'd throw a wrench in the convo to see what everyone thinks.

Very possible...However, one of her Legacy starters was on the team with her. And they also had some shooters on the team that I saw light up our team in the younger years. So I could go with "maybe she was told to shoot" more than the others.

Second bold...very possible. I really have no idea. Only saw them once when we played them. But I do know some of the parents. So it is all hearsay at this point. However, I have seen teams improve with the loss of a very good player that scored a lot of points. The loss makes the run smoother sometimes. Not saying this will be the case at all, I have just seen it happen before. You don't have to look far to find that in the 9th last year.

First bold...I agree that this could have happened. I've seen, and heard it happen before.

Second bold...I have also seen this happen before. Who knows, it's all speculation. Like I said, just playing Devil's Advocate. But good for Scott if they end up being a better team.

To me someone stated on another thread that it would be tough for Scott to improve over last year given their schedule change. I looked at their schedule and I think they are right. They are stepping way up in competition this year and it makes me wonder if some of the ppg of their former player was a little easier to come by.

A player has to earn the respect such as Abby Owens has done over the years. She performed at a high level against top competition. I wouldn't expect Ally to perform at this level for several years. She may have some good games but the majority of her points come from Free Throws or points in the paint. That gets taken away as you step up levels of competition. SK schedule vs Scott's over the past years is night and day. Point being is time will tell if Ally can be at that level and you may not have to wait long as SK's schedule is very tough right out of the gate.

Great players are able to create and make other players better. Is she this type of player?

Wow, I am sure the other players at Scott appreciate the slam against their talent. Now, to avoid the banter back and forth and for the record. Between the 2 teams that contended for the AAU State Title 4 will be in the starting lineup for Scott. 2 of these players also played in the AAU National Title game and the other 2 are in the starting lineup for the #1 Nationally Ranked D2 team. To say there was not other players as talented simply proves your lack of knowledge about the Eagles.

Now back to the true point at hand. I think someone else hit the nail on the head. Neace is a very good player and an excellent shooter. But to say she is an upgrade to Owings, no offense to JT, it is simply not true.

Sounds SK is going to be good!

Niece was one of the best passers I saw at the fall exposure event. She passed the ball almost to much playing with us. She definitely made every one better around her and she was playing with top 100 kids, and not in a watered down bracket. Every college coach I talked to said her passing was great along with IQ. Point is that she didn't need to score every possession like she was asked to at Scott. To call or insinuate that this kid is selfish shows no knowledge or understanding of the game. Keep also in mind that she is a freshman in high school. I'm sure she has plenty to work on like all kids do. Sometime us arm chair quarterbacks get to thinking we are Geno. Let the kids play and be thankful.

They will be, just not as good as Walton. :D

By the way...Good luck to the football Pioneers come post season. Good to see you in another forum other than football.

If you read my post, I did not say they were bad. I said I wonder if that was the case. I don't know anything about Scott's insider information, so obviously I am just posing a question. I didn't slam anyone, FYI Dozer. I just posted a question to see what everyone thought. If I would've said "She didn't pass because they all suck around her," then yes, I would have been slamming the other girls. But I did not, nor is that my actual opinion. So try to read through the post first and really understand what was being said. Just to avoid any banter back and forth :)

I know there is talent at Scott and I know Ally Niece is a good player as well. I know there is a ton of room for improvement for everyone involved...Ally is just a freshmen and will continue to improve I'm sure with the move to SK. Scott is led by a coach that has been around the game forever and will only continue to improve her teams.

With regards to Niece vs. Owings, I think it comes down to the type of player they are. They are two different gamers and I think to compare them is wrong. Abby was an excellent player and I bet Ally will make her mark on the program as well in the next 4 years. I have seen Ally do things in the last couple of years that Abby could not and in the same regard, Abby do things that Ally cannot.

I'm dishing a lot of "likes" for those against this one. I think your emotions got the best of you and you got a little ahead of yourself.

And in case your tempted to overreact again, I am not saying Niece is not a player. She is a heckuva player! But as a freshmen, she will NOT be an upgrade yet over Abby's defense, toughness, heart, leadership, bball IQ, and everything Abby meant to her team by her Junior and Senior years. It takes more than points to be an upgrade over Owens. If you want to say Niece will be an upgrade at some point, then great, I got no problem with that. That would seem more realistic. Of course, if you want to continue the pride and disrespect route, that is your choice....have fun.

Thank you - agreed and long term I do believe my original statement will be confirmed. That is no disrespect to Abby she was a great player and did some great things and I wish her all the best as she continues her career in College.

They are different players and I'm comparing an incoming freshman to a proven graduate so it maybe a reach but it's also my opinion as Niece can do all the things and more offensively that Abby could do in a bigger package and she is a freshman (upside). I also believe that the SK coaching staff will be able to scheme defensively with Niece to offset her weakness on that end where Abby was superior. This is why I believe it's an upgrade for SK no emotion or over reaction. I will be happy to adjust my comments at the end of the season and re examine them again after the 2018 season.

No one said that. Just asking questions and making conversation. No one denies she is a good player. But not Abby Owings yet! When a name gets put out there for recognition, there is not reason others can't ask questions and wonder why others have a different opinion of her. If you put pressure on a kid by putting her out there and saying she is at the level of a proven player, then you are exposing her to the other side too.

I am not comparing Niece to Owens. Both are very good players, each in their respective way. I can also read and comprehend what is being insinuated.

Well sometimes it's tough being in the spotlight. Some have opinions that you and others may not want to hear. Doesn't mean they are wrong or right. Just opinions. And I haven't seen anyone say she is a selfish player or bad passer. Again, just opinions. My statements come from opinions of others. Maybe jealousy or something else. No idea. But apparently those perceptions are out there (Never said I agree or disagree with them) and if you highlight someone on here, those other opinions will get highlighted as well.

There is nothing better in this world for anyone than direct feedback. Honesty, feedback and perceptions are a gift if they are received correctly. Not saying that's easy. So regardless of what you think or others, there are feelings and perceptions out there. If she receives feedback well, those perceptions can be corrected and they go away.

For the record, I think she is an outstanding passer. But making others better around you is not just passing. (and no, that's not me taking a shot at her). I'm just saying there are a lot of other things people use to form an opinion on whether you make others better.

Ok. I will leave this thread. Just trying to say these are kids and they all have faults and strong points. Have a great year this year at Highlands. You have two really good coaches.
