TripleSevens,Not sure who all plays what sport at SK, but maybe they have been in volleyball and haven't made many practices yet if any. Would only be fitting to utilize the ones that have been at practices.

Could be for at least one. Kelsey Schmiade played volleyball. The vball season for SK was over a couple of weeks ago. I wouldn't think that would matter too much.

No big deal though...I had tuned in to hear them, assuming those two would be there since they were Seniors and had been a part of last years varsity team. (especially Schmiade since I know her family more) I was a little let down when they were not.

If you want an honest answer and just my opinion??? SK has a way to have some of their stronger players "play down" from what I've seen...where other schools (not all) do not. I have no idea if anyone else feels that way, but my experience with my daughter coming up and the limited times I saw them, the seem to always have borderline kids play down. What do I mean about borderline kids...kids that get pretty much varsity time, but don't start. So technically they are okay to play JV or freshman and its totally up to the SK staff, but I just don't see other programs do it as much as SK. Nothing wrong with it, but it can contribute to success at those levels when others don't do it.

Now I haven't seen a ton of games, but it just feels like end of the season tournaments and big games, you always see kids that may not normally play that level...playing. They are certainly within the rules, but other schools don't typically decide who is playing based on who they are playing.

The season before last, this was very true. Their JV team had the blessing of being more Junior heavy than the average JV team. They rolled everybody. I watched them at least 3 times that year and the lead they had in the third or fourth qtr, would determine when those Varsity bench players would leave the JV game and head to the locker room to join the rest of the varsity. Not a big deal, many teams do this. SK just had the liberty of doing it with Juniors because they had so many in that class. There was something like 8 juniors that year.

Last year, was different. There was a lot more youth like most other JV teams, however they still had a lot of success. So we shall see.

Understand...like it said, my opinion was based on limited times seeing them. Another situation was when this current class were freshman. Schmiade and two others were freshman that year. They had not played a minute of freshman basketball and were brought down to play in the freshman region. We ended up playing them in the finals and beat them, but just always thought it was odd to bring those kids down to take the place of the kids that had played there all year. No issues with it really other than one of the girls that used to play aau for me never played another minute of basketball for SK after that game. Coincidence, maybe. I don't know. She was a starter on that freshman team and was only an 8th grader at the time. But never played again.

You are way off base and way out of line here with your insinuation. The player to whom you refer here had made it public where she was going to spend her HS career long before the freshman tournament. This player also participated in the regional tournament with varsity that year. The mother was an alum of the school of choice and it was clear that was where the daughter was going.

What are you talking about??? I'm talking about a player that played for me in AAU, went to twenhofel and played on the freshman team as an 8th grader and still goes to SK. She just doesn't play bball anymore. The reason I said she never played another minute for SK is because she had a bad taste in her mouth after she started the entire year and then they brought kids down from the JV to play in the freshman tournament and she sat. So I have no idea what the heck you are even talking about. But hey, since you brought it up, let's hear it!

I could be wrong, but I believe that RCC9 is referring to a different person/player in a different class. I know the one you are referring to, and she would have been a 7th grader that year, not 8th. (If I understood RCC9 correctly). I believe he was referring to a young lady that would have been 8th grade then and a junior this year. I may be incorrect, if so, RC can clear it up.

Well, I was a little late on that one. Dang RC is fast.

Let's just say your perspective is a VERY one sided view point and making assertions as to the reason she no longer plays basketball(her decision or /the coaches) . Claiming knowledge of most sports ,with the specialty of Softball then figure this out Softball is in the same family as Baseball and Baseball has Pros that move down to their farm leagues for playing time and someone there(Farm league team) gets bumped for a few games and vice versa when a guy gets CALLED UP from minors ,someone in the Majors gets benched . One would need the capacity to understand transferring that system to developing a Basketball program. If one did then one would have No problem moving players around for development. It is evident SK has found a way to transfer Baseball's system to Basketball and it works!!!!!

Or...sorry RCC9 for accusing you of something that wasn't true.

As for the subject you are now talking about...I said in the first post that I wasn't 100% sure why she didn't play. In the second post I am just trying to explain to you what that heck I was talking about since you were attacking me about something I wasn't even talking about!! And I believe i also said that's just my perception in limited exposure to the program. AND the one I'm talking about played for me for years and I was still coaching her at the time and remain close to her family. So I do have a little insight about what I'm talking about. Sorry it hurt your feelings. Was not my intent. Someone asked a question and I gave them my perception of why it might not necessarily translate into wins at the varsity level immediately. And if you are admitting to them moving talent around (which is perfectly fine) but that's exactly my point. If a team constantly moving talent around based on who they play or what the event is and others do not, then that will not mean it will translate into win at the varsity level. The team could be successful for sure, but by know means does winning freshman and JV team mean the varsity team will be very good. ESPECIALLY, when you move kids down to win the games that other schools are not moving kids down. Again. Could care less. Just answering the question that was posed. Obviously I'm not complaining. The year they moved those 3 kids down, we beat them in the finals. Why would I be mad??

Honest answer to which is it "stronger players" playing down or "borderline kids" ? If a Freshman is skilled enough to earn playing time at each of the levels then she becomes a better player because she is actually playing .A sophomore who plays JV and varsity can't play in a Freshman game due to grade level. Whereas a Freshman (or younger , 8th,7th)who is able to play competitively at each of the levels is able to participate in those said Freshman games. It is apples to oranges as to how or why any other team does or Does Not choose to play a player up or down for whatever reason they have for that player. I haven't seen SK's history of deciding weather a certain player or players plays up or down based upon who the opponent will be in a single game or in a tournament. So I am really confused are you commenting everybody should do the exact same thing as school XYand Z just because it feels more fair?? and the use of the words (so technically they are ok) I would ask Does it contribute to success at the highest level of competition in high school ? If one can answer Yes , Then why Not duplicate or attempt to duplicate it like the Baseball reference in my earlier post.

I've already explained everything you are asking. I answered the question that was asked based on my perception of what I've seen. Admitting that it was limited. The question was wouldn't the freshman and JV success translate into immediate varsity success. Answer is not necessarily. And I gave the reasons why.

In the scenario I was most familiar with, I am described. In short, SK had nine players in the freshman team. For the freshman region that year, they brought down 3 other freshman girls that had started JV all year. The only freshman minutes they played all year were in the freshman region. When they brought those 3 kids down, they took the place of 3 other starters and the total on the team to 12.

Hhs on the other hand had 7 kids on the freshman team. They played with 6 a lot due to injuries and illness. They had an 8th grader playing varsity that year. They never once thought about bringing her down to help out the freshman team. Could have and would have very justifiable based on the numbers they had. But never did it. Even in the freshman tournament.

Two different examples and two different styles. To each their own. But again, if SK would have even won that tournament, it has no indication on how the varsity will be when not every school had all their kids playing down and they did. How does that not make sense? I'm not saying if it's right or wrong. I'm answering the question.

Could care less about anything else you're trying to sell or justify. And you talk about apples to apples...major league baseball and high school girls bball??? Really?? Let's start with one group gets paid to be told what to do and paid based on their performance and the org makes revenue based in the success of developing players. That's why they do it that way. So you're saying apply that to high school girls sports?? There are many more differences too, but wow! Like I said, to each their own. And you say "it works for SK". What has worked? Are they way more advanced than all the other programs around them?? You say it like they have a long history and tradition of winning championships. Am I missing something or are they on the same level of most schoolS of their scale and size?

All I did was answer the question. If you don't agree with the answer, I'm perfectly fine with it. And I never saw the apology come through yet! Must have got lost in cyberspace! It's obvious you just wanted to argue something with me. Because as soon as you figured out you were wrong on the first subject, you jump right to something different. Hilarious! I have a very good idea who this is and it doesn't surprise me at all. Have a great day.

You repeatedly take isolated incidences with no background knowledge then formulate and post elaborate opinions based on no facts. There is no apology for citing that behaviour. The player in question was cut the following year for failing to improve themselves during the summer and being surpassed by younger players.

It amazes me RC, that you can take the position of a coach when it suits your agenda, which is usually throwing mud at anything SK, and the position of a disgruntled parent. Can't have it both ways.

What the heck are you talking about???? You apparently have not idea who I'm talking about because she didn't even try out the next year!!! Quit making assumptions!!!! Hilarious!

And facts...saw everything I'm describing with my own two eyes and knew, coached and had conversations with those directly involved! Not sure what other facts I need. And again, all I did was answer the question. The answer is no is doesn't.

And others had examples of it too on the JV level. That wasn't my example. Multiple JR contributors playing on the JV? I didn't say that. How many girl bball teams in NKY have multiple JRs playing JV? Especially ones that get significant varsity minutes? Again, that wasn't my example!!

My agenda??? Disgruntled parent??? What are you talking about??? I really have no idea where you are going with that one!

But since you enjoy reading my stuff and I had some time to think about your other post...what about this. You say its okay for outstanding underclassman to play all 3 levels because they are playing and getting experience and that always a good thing. So I assume we'll see Niece suiting up for the SK freshman and JV teams this year??? Okay, sarcastic... But let's take another kid and say she may see decent minutes on the varsity for a freshman. And may or may not play JV (depending on the program). Most programs don't play their top 8 varsity players any lower unless they have to for numbers. So now you have a top 8 player on varsity. You feel it's okay to play her at all 3 levels, which is fine. No problem. My point is that one player may get better. But every minute that player takes from someone on the JV and Freshman team is a minute you had to develop the program by developing others instead of just one. According to you user name you've coached. So which would you like, one player or the chance of developing multiple players.

Secondly, you know I coach softball and you I you may know a little bit about the game too. So I have 4 really good JRs this year. As sophomores, they won the 9th region. So not last season, but the season before, they were freshman. After their sophomore year, one is now committed D1, another getting a lot of D1 looks, the other a very good pitcher getting looks and the other getting looks and was the MVP of the 9th region tournament. So are you saying it would have been perfectly fine two years ago to have them play on my freshman team??? They still needed some development. They sure could have used the extra swings. When we played the freshman Oak Hills and Lakota teams with all freahman on their team and we had all 6th and 7th graders, those freshman sure would have helped us! When we sent our 6th and 7th graders to some freshman tournaments, should I have sent my other 4 freshman? They could have used some swings that year. And they would be "playing" more games which makes them better! Using your philosophy, we should see Neice on the freshman circuit this and I should have played my good freshman in all the freshman round robins two years ago. Heck, I have a 7th grader this past year that started every game at 2nd base. Maybe I should have played he on the freshman and JV teams all year too. She never played an inning on any other team. You don't think she could have used some swings here and there. Maybe I'm a bad coach...but she got the game winning hit in the regional finals!

And to expand on why freshman and JV success is only a very small indicator of varsity success besides the fact that not all programs play their kids down...you have players quit, you have development of underclassman and you have transfers. Look at the 9th region this year. Top 5 teams are HC, Holmes, HHS, ND and Ryle. As freshman, HHS won the region. Now as varsity teams, (due to transfers, younger kid development, and MS kids choosing different schools to attend in high school), all these teams have a very good shot at the region. At the freshman level, none of these teams were very good at all. (Sorry all the others, just making a point here.) If you were a forecaster back then, you would think that noone should touch HHS this year. But that's not the case at all. The region is VERY balanced. So again, NO, freshman and JV success does not transfer into immediate varsity success. That was the question and thats what I'm answering. And I (and others) provided examples as to why. You are making this much bigger than it needs to be. It was a simple questions and I gave an honest answer based on may experience with them, my conversations with others very close to the program and what I've seen with my own eyes. I'm sorry it hurts your feelings. I am extremely honest with every post I make on here about any school and any player. SK people just seem to get their feelings hurt more often than others and feel like I have "an agenda" with SK. Really??? Why would I have any kind of an agenda with SK. They have absolutely zero effect on anything the pertains to me. They just don't like honest answers or opinions that are not in agreement with theirs. Others on this board are able to discuss it and have open minds to seeing both sides. SK fans go directly into defense mode...just like you!
