So about this years team.......Abby can't be replaced she dominated.

This team will be younger and will be more dependent on ball movement rather than dribble penetration, speed and quickness. This will still be a fast up tempo team, but the ball will be advanced passing and not dribbling.

I hope SK is not counting on the 5foot 50 lbs guard I saw play last year. She spends more time on the floor than playing. To small and not strong enough to lead the team.

The team will be led by Seniors Bosse and Schmiade and by Freshman transfer Ally Neace. They have a lot of returning experienced players and very good younger players.

Are you a sk coach?? If so its an awful idea to be on bgp post in about your team. Who else can help this team this year. I remember a few jv and varsity young ladies with good size and could shoot.

Simon Kenton High School (Independence, KY) Girls Basketball Roster

RCC has a very valid point as far as not playing girls at their grade level all year, then bringing them down to win a tournament. Ask almost any high school coach and they say that freshmen and JV are more of a training ground to help improve the varseity. Plus, the girls that played on the JV or Freshmen team all year, then come tourney time get the speech "you did a good job this year, but now sit next to me and be a bench warmer" while these girls step in and play can really hurt a program overall. SK is 6A, so it has huge numbers, but it really leaves a bitter taste in the players and parents mouth that they were good enough to play all year, now they are not. Also, one team I am aware of had 6 freshman girls playing JV exclusively last year in Northern Kentucky, and come freshmen tourny time, they did not get brought down, nor did they want to. Most schools that have younger girls playing jv or varseity, don't send them down to play in the freshmen tourney so not sure how much value winning the freshmen tourney has. Apples to oranges.

This is my point...and I actually don't care if they do it or not. It's within the rules and every coach has a plan for their program. But answering the question that was posted...there's no way they can correlate the lower success to varsity success. AND I do agree that it can kill a program. It has nothing to do with "the best play". The best shouldn't take ALL the minutes in a program or your going to run out of kids! (maybe not at SK), but you are going to lose some that could have helped!

Rcc9 I hate to break this news to you and all those who have been following this dialogue. I am going on a cruise and won't be able to continue the dialogue. I really will miss the back and forth discussing the validity of a programs philosophy or the discussion making process within that global philosophy of long term benefits vs the traditional view of programs within the great state of Ky. Especially the Northern Kentucky mentality. I hope each dose not freeze from the expected cold that will cover the NKY area while I am riding the ship in warm weather!!! Hope your bottoms stay warm!!!! Final statement in the over riding philosophy of a program is the same visceral reaction to the UK Coaches decision to recruit those who are elite and fit the mold of 1& done. Many in academia cry foul with this type of philosophy toward Collegiate athletics. It is the beginning of change to a mindset that has been around for decades. Not everyone agrees on it's merit only time will tell. The same with SK what they do and how they do it and their approach (philosophy) is different than others and to high school athletics. Doesn't make it right just different. Sunny weather here I come!!!!!!!

RC9 comments have been spot on. I know this team I know the girls I remember when girls were moved down to the frosh team and I can put two and two together on who coach O really is. My advice would be a coach should not be on a fan site talking about a team they help coach on anyway. Terrible idea!! With that said I cant wait till my kids are old enough to play for SK for now we sit in the stands and cheer.

Quite often in a tournament situation, where you are playing multiple games daily, the 6, 7 or 8 kids that play freshman only are not enough and you need to bring some kids down so kids don't get worn down.

I would agree with that...HOWEVER...the freshman tournament is played one day at a time. Only one game a day. AND SK had like 12 kids (with the addition of the other 3) on the the team and HHS had 6 (and we didn't bring down our eligible girls).
