August 21, 201412 yr Yes, I would say that's part of the reason. You don't see how all the practice time, and other hard work and effort might not be worth the effort if you realize you have either no or very little chance to see the field?? Trust me, you know pretty quickly if you have the chops to play or not. Not many people are willing to spend 4 years as a practice dummy. And yes, I'm sure you are right as well, there certainly are those that decide it's simply time to move on. Neither of those issues are related to too much competition or being scared off by it. They give it a shot, and it doesn't work out...either your good enough and don't want to play anymore, or you find out you're not good enough to play at that level. I just happen think there are more of the latter.Again, I never said TMC (or any D3 school) is just loaded with top end talent. And I'm sure, that there are 15, 20 or even a few more that try to play, that don't have any business being out there. I'm not sure why you believe that there just aren't that many talented kids playing D3 football....there really are. I'm not sure why you don't believe there isn't much talent or that it's any less of a grind to play D3 football. During the season, yes, it's a grind for guys at all levels. However, most D3 programs do less than HS programs in the summer/off season. Before you say I'm wrong, better understand the difference between mandatory and voluntary. I GUARANTEE you the kids at Highlands had more structured conditioning/lifting than TMC did. I keep trying to get out of this thread but you continue to pull me back in. Yes, there are talented HS football players at D3 schools. No, they are not FBS, FCS or D2 material. If they were, they'd be playing there with a few (very few) exceptions.

And maybe we are just misunderstanding each other and what we are trying to say (or maybe I'm not quite saying it eloquently enough:lol:). And I especially agree with the last post. It just seemed (at least to me) that you felt it was pretty easy to play D3 football simply because there isn't a lot of talent. And my point, that talent is all relevant, still makes it a very competitive situation for playing time. The closest analogy I can think of is golf. If you take 100 golfers that are all 8-10 handicaps and have a tournament, despite the fact that they aren't the best golfers (they are still however pretty good, and certainly better than average), it's still going to be a very competitive tourney and tough to win simply because there are so many guys of equal or close to equal skill.
August 25, 201412 yr Junior is going to get pushed really hard. Mr. Kuntz looked very impressive during the inter-squad scrimmage. Very accurate and mobile.
August 28, 201412 yr Crazy numbers: ATH 3 CB 4 DB 20 DE 6 DL 22 DT 2 FB 8 FS 2 K 3 LB 19 LS 1 OL 18 OLB 2 P 1 QB 7 RB 9 SS 1 TE 6 WR 26 Grand Total 160 Do they have a roster limit at TMC? That's crazy
August 28, 201412 yr Just curious: Is there any chance that Domonique Hayden could make an NFL team? Can he catch the ball?
August 29, 201412 yr I've only seen him play in an inter squad scrimmage. He is a bit under sized but a freak of nature. He is powerful and has really good speed. Talking to my son and he states he is a beast in the weight room. I was told that several NFL teams have requested film and several more have been at practice.
August 29, 201412 yr Even with a strong DIII team like TMC has become I would be shocked if Kuntz doesn't eventually take over the starting position this season. I'd have a hard time seeing that happen like someone else mentioned. While Kuntz is very talented, the QB they have now is a 2 year starter and I believe he is only going to be a junior. Took over early as a freshman I believe.

It is ridiculous. I talked to a kid who is a FR on the team and he said they have so many kids he may never dress for any game. I'm not talking just this year.
