I'm going to need some detail on that comment. I hope I'm missing your point but at face value, may be the craziest thing I've read on here all year.

What I mean is that, not only are you just simply competing against more people, since there are no scholarships, the coaching staff isn't nearly as committed to giving you a chance. If you are paying a kids way, you are going to give him every opportunity to prove he's worthy of that investment. Of course it's tougher and takes more talent/size/skill/ability to even be able to have a chance to play D1 sports. But once you get that ride, despite the fact you are competing at a higher level, since coaches/schools have made a financial commitment to you, you will at least get a chance (or 2 or 3) to show what you've got. At a D3 school, that commitment doesn't exist, and if you don't stand out, or have a bad day or week or get hurt, and fall down the chart, since there are so many guys, it's tough to get the reps to dig out of the whole. There is only so much practice time and reps to go around. You can't legitimately get all 160 kids good reps in 10 hours of practice every week.

Then it would only be harder to get on the field if you weren't a good football player, right? A kid like Kuntz will get on the field quicker at TMC than he would have at WKU. Same is true for most of those guys. The quicker path to PT is at a D3, if not, go D1 and tryout.

Don't get me wrong, glad we have someplace for these to continue playing after HS but let's not think that D3 is anything more than that.

Maybe, maybe not. Plenty of freshman get to start right away at the D1 level....talent wise it's all relative. At a D3 school, Kuntz will be competing with 7 or guys instead of 4. And most of those guys will be just as talented as he is. More guys=more competition. It's tougher to win a 7 man race than a 4 man race. Again, I'm not saying D3 is better football. I'm just saying because of numbers and lack of financial commitment, coaches aren't nearly as compelled to give everyone a fair chance.

Just using Kuntz as an example, as there are plenty of others we could use, your statement is absurd. No way that competing with 6 or 7 D3 guys is more of a challenge than competing with 3 others at a D1 school. Yes, there are more of them but the talent level is so far down that a guy with D1 talent will be head and shoulders better than the other guys on the roster.

Again, the talent level is mostly, all relative. For the most part, D1 guys play D1, and D3 guys play D3. Usually, the talent and skill sets will be similar amongst those competing. So you're competing for a spot with more guys of a similar talent/skill set at a D3 school. Sure, you get a few legitimate D1 guys that for whatever reason decide to play D3 (or D2 or NAIA), and in that case, yes it will be much easier for that guy to see the field sooner at a D3 school, because he's simply more talented. And most D3, especially the top programs, will often have a handful of D1 type guys on their roster. Which makes it even tougher for the "normal" D3 guy to see the field. And using Kuntz as an example, even though he was a possible D1 guy, I'd be shocked if he even sees the field this year or next, with an Honorable Mention All conference QB returning (Jensen Gebhart, who is only a JR) and his top backup from last year, still on the roster.

Again, I'm not implying that it isn't hard or extremely competitive to play D1 football. It's one of the toughest things to do. I'm just saying because of huge numbers (and the occasional D1 or D2 guy that decides to play D3) D3 football is extremely competitive when trying to earn a spot. And given the fact that the program hasn't made a financial commitment to you, if you don't stand out right away, you may never get another opportunity if you fall behind early. At a D1 school, since the school has made a financial commitment, even though you may not make it, you will at least get a chance.

I thought AJ Collins was at TMC? Was always a big fan of that kid.

Never could recover from the shoulder surgery so sports is over and I believe he will be at NKU this year. Good kid!!

Even with a strong DIII team like TMC has become I would be shocked if Kuntz doesn't eventually take over the starting position this season.

I believe that should happen sometime this season. I guess it depends how quick he picks up the offense.

I've heard the TMC really likes the guy they have playing now. Honestly, the move to TMC makes me wonder how much Kuntz really likes football.

The incumbent starter was honorable mention all conference last year as a Sophomore, so he's no slouch. I would expect Kuntz to be the #2 by the end of the season, as I think last years backup is a senior. They play a pretty tough schedule I think, so if they do stumble a couple of times, that might open the door for Kuntz.

From what I have heard he still loves football he just wants to be closer to home and play football with his buddies at TMC. They have several kids from SK on the roster. The starting QB is a Senior.

Gebhart is the starter, right (He was honorable mention all conference last year). He's listed as a junior

No....great kid! Sorry to hear that about his shoulder.

For some reason I was thinking Magness was the starter.

There is no doubt that this is a way to boost enrollment numbers. I am a little surprised that the football team does this because they have a strong program and have plenty of talent to choose from in the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area. Usually schools with down, or not well established football programs will take anyone that still wants to lace up the pads and play to get numbers and hope they find some talent. TMC does not have this issue.

I know attrition is very high at smaller college programs and I would be surprised if 25 would still be playing their senior year out of the 90 they bring in. Not sure how you would conduct practice with that many players.
