August 6, 201412 yr You know very many pitchers? Everyone at that level is super-competitive. Pitchers don't like giving up hits, period. Whether that's in a regular season game, spring training game, or live BP session. Hate it! No. But it is also naive to believe the 10-13 people on the field at any given time are giving 100% every single pitch and inning with the same amount of attention and focus, regardless of the situation. It is like a guy in the NBA dropping 20 in the fourth when a game is out of hand. We are talking pro athletics with egos and pride larger than Texas with huge sensitivity sometimes.

We're not talking about position players. Specifically, pitchers. And you are right, they have HUGE egos. Which is exactly why they don't pack it in. They give you 100% of what they have that day, every single pitch.

I get home from work and see all this on here and just laugh. In MY opinion, it SEEMS Jay Bruce never hits a home run in clutch situations(game on the line, game changing situation,etc.), it SEEMS he only hits a home run(mostly solo) when the Reds are way ahead or way behind. Certainly an opinion that shouldn't warrant a thread and a half and stats backing up Bruce, so what? It still doesn't change what I think about Bruce and his home runs
