I think that Harlan Co is ranked to high.

Agree with Commander25... Black Bears were used and abused by graduation on both sides of the ball and also lost their best returning skill player when he transferred to Wburg.

 

Harlan County has a "bear" of a schedule and 5-5 wouldn't surprise me at all. I know 4 games they appear to be the underdog in (Belfry, Greenveille, Johnson Central, Bell County) and right now I would call Bryan Station and Knox Central close games.

 

Where are the NKY 5A teams? Think Warren Central is #5.

I hope I'm wrong...but I don't see Anderson at #6.

They have a real tough schedule.

Purples are number 1 but fans need to understand just how much talent graduated this past year; that senior class was truly a once in a lifetime class. Every skill player, all-state lineman and two of the better high school defensive players that you could want.

 

With that said, Purples can still be good. I am certainly not in the inner loop and the coaching staff knows much better than I but I would think that the offensive scheme will be a lot different this year. We may have several running backs that gets a lot of carries. I told my buddy that my bet is that we focus on time of possession, protecting the ball and be aggressive defense. If we keep our offense on the field and grind the clock (against 4 of the teams we face during the season) we could possibly win majority of those 4 games. The other 6 games we should handle fairly easy. On those 6 games, let the offense air it out and see how we do. Just my thoughts.

 

I will say this, 5A if you want to get a ring you better do it this year or next year. I am hearing that another strong couple of classes are on the horizon for the Purples!

2. Concerning the rankings, I agree that Harlan Co is too high.

I personally am just fine with where they are. I think Central has the talent to be higher but we've got to see how they look against competition. They're just going to be a totally different team than they were under Rogers. We have no way of knowing yet if this new offensive scheme is the door to more titles or the same curtain they've been pulling back for the last several years. I've seen the uptempo spread approach throw defenses for a loop as they struggle to keep up, and I've also seen teams run around with their hair on fire and run poor plays REAL fast. Tempo only works if you're still moving the ball. I've liked what I've seen so far and I'm super excited for more, but I want to see a real game first. They should drum Hoptown the first week but then face some strong competition from Bourbon County and DeSales back to back. Handle that, then I'd be inclined to move them up.

I know this list is pre-season. However, a team to watch is Southwestern. They make noise and finish in the top 7 or so in 5A. Mark it down.

I believe you may be correct on this and that would put 3 of the top teams in District 7. Could be a battle for the district title and some tough playoff games just to win the region.

Some of the Warren Central faithful are saying they will defeat BG this year. Maybe they are too low.

I would say put WC in the top 2? Is this the same Pulaski County team that SK beat in 2012 50 to 7?
