Actually, the junior and sophomore classes both have talented classes "by 2a standards" and I expect the success to continue well past this season and next.

Been hearing for quite some time that, "this year will be a down year for NewCath", somehow they just keep reloading.

Two Questions:

 

1.) Has NewCath become the perennial favorite in 2A, 5 of the last 7 seasons been to the state finals? Yes

 

2.) Can anyone on their side of the bracket compete with NewCath? No

At least History would suggest as much.

 

After this season I think everyone in 2A has to step their game up a little, as Mayfield moves to 2A in the West. Whoever comes out of the east will in most every year face Mayfield in the Finals.

A rather ignorant assumption. It's been 15 years since NCC lost to Dayton or Bellevue, helped in part by the fact that they no longer play them anymore given the beat downs administered by NCC in their most recent meetings.

I think Mayfield will have to step their game up. Their road will be a little bit tougher. You think DeSales, CAL, and Glasgow are just going to let Mayfield slide by every year? I'm telling you now watch the Colts for the next few years. We dressed 83 last year, and about the same this year. We have a lot of talent stockpiled. Our incoming classes have been very good.

What high school teams actually have a "kicking coach"? Unless they have performed the craft at some time in the past, they certainly would not be of much assistance.

 

The best kicking coaches in high school football know to head over to the soccer practice field and see who would like to do some double-duty. Works for a lot of teams including NCC in the past.

This senior class is as talented as any, but they are a little more subdued. There are 5 who have either started or played significant roles on offense and defense since they were soph's. Keep thinking the cupboard is bare.

I would say this NCC team is going to be a little different than the previous 4 years in that they have more experience on the line and deeper lines than in the recent years......but they lack experience and depth at the skill positions.

Yeah their road will be tougher than it has been in 1A, but they routinely beat bigger really good schools. Mayfield will be the one constant year in and year out in the 2A West discussion with other teams challenging them from time to time.

Again I have never heard of a high school team locally that has a kicking coach. Highlands has had a long list of kickers that were very successful and none of them were pulling "double-duty" Smaller schools I get because of numbers. With that said, who takes over the kicking game for the Breds this year?

Why the concern with the kicking game? If you can't find someone who is reliable you go for 2. I'm more than sure teams have done that in the past, or haven't you heard of that either? I know quite a few coach's who would rather go for it on 4th down or go for 2 because of the inconsistency of most high school kickers.

Because it was brought up by someone in an earlier post. Like the little jab that you try to make though. I know exactly what I am talking about. The kicking game can have a big influence on how the game is played and I would say that most high school kickers that might be inconsistent are because they play soccer, as you suggest, and thus do not get or put in the time at practice to work on it.
