But he also draws in the victims for the cannibals. In turn, the cannibals leave the preacher alone and won't eat him.

Let's say Bob was bitten in the leg.....like Hershel was. (I mean Bob walked toward the bubbles in the water so he could have been bit before the walker surfaced.) And they cut off Hershels leg and he lived. Except Bob was not with them at the farm so Bob did not know about the cutting off the leg thing.

So coincidentally, the cannibals cut off the leg that was bitten. So Bob lives but cannibals die.
