Sandman
I'll go with: 92 CovCath team. They were really good. 97 Highlands team. Really good team.
MentschTrachtGottLacht
CCH '92 - only CCH team to go undefeated in a regular season, including a win over Moeller. This was the best team CCH has ever had, with apologies to the state title teams. Upset by Highlands in playoffs, after beating them 42-7(ish) in regular season at Highlands. I'm inclined to agree with this.
G1
Covington Catholic 1990 and 1992. The 1990 team was #1 overall, per Dave Cantrall for a good portion of the season. Lost to a big school OH team early in the year and lost in OT @ Bell Co in the playoffs, after a tough holding call and a 50/50 call on the goal line on 4th down - both in OT. If you're a CCH fan, it looks like the RB scored to set-up a game tying extra point attempt. If you're a Bell fan, he was stopped short. Upset by Highlands in playoffs, after beating them 42-7(ish) in regular season at Highlands. The 92 regular season Highlands covcath game was no where near the blow out you describe. It was back and forth. Tied at 21. Covcath scored to go up 28-21. Stopped Highlands for the first time and scored again to make it. 35-21. After a Highlands turnover Covcath added a garbage Td to close it out 42-21. We left knowing we would win the rematch by pressing the receivers at the line and pressuring the Qb. Highlands was just the bigger, stronger, tougher, more physical team. Huge offensive and Dline. Perhaps the schools biggest ever. Covcath was good too. Both teams were as good as anyone in Ohio that year.

G1
The 42-6 regular season victory over the Birds was 2 seasons later. Correct. That was 94. And Covcath won the 94 playoff game 7-3 with a goal line stand to finish the game and went on to win state.
G1
Reminds me how far you have to go back to find any sizeable victory margins for Covcath. At least that era of Highlands struggling with Covcath was short lived.
Baller99
1983 Bluebird that were undefeated and 2 time defending state champs ranked #24 in USA Today nationally and were beat by the Connor Cougars 13-6 in the 1st round of the playoffs. Connor went on to win the state title with the help of Melvin Miles at running back and a 7 diamond defense. Birds were posed to score with 2 mins. to go in the game when and ill-timed off sides penalty on the 3 yard line pushed them back and they never scored. If they win that game it would have been another title for the birds.
Cynical
The 1997 BGHS team...they opened the season against Hoptown who had Artose Pinner. Pinner played most of the first half and the game was close. Pinner went down and BG proceeded to blow Hoptown out. Hoptown then beat the Purples in the Regional Championship, mainly on the back of Pinner and would go on to lose the State Championship in controversial fashion. Of course, we all know what happened with Mr. Pinner and how he was ineligible. Had he not played, I believe that BG team wins 3A.
Cynical
Also, the 1991 Paducah Tilghman team was stacked and got knocked out by the Purples in the playoffs.

Did Pinner not play in the state championship game the Hoptown lost 21- 13 to CovCath that year? Pretty sure he did.
Blockbuster
Did Pinner not play in the state championship game the Hoptown lost 21- 13 to CovCath that year? Pretty sure he did. Yes he did. That was a very good Hoptown team that i believe included Deontay Kenner (UC) and a few others that were D1 type players. That was a great hoptown team (in spite of the Pinner age issue). Pinner was their only offense. Not sure what he means by "controversial". They were stopped well short of the goal line and the clock ran out. CCH and HHS were hands down the two best teams that year.
