Did Beechwood force Principal Ben Zimmerman out?

Featured Replies

Sounds more like a conspiracy theory to me. Don't get me wrong, I think Beechwood is lucky to have Bob Noll as the assistant Principal and possible new Principal but the over all theory seems weak to me.

Agreed, it is not likely, but it is plausible and it is the first thing I thought of knowing that there is a former principal (only 2 years out of the role) in current administration. It definitely falls under conspiracy theory though, and I would like to hear some other reasons why he would be pushed out. If anything, having Noll there makes the move easier, even if it's not the motivation.

Kentucky Teachers' Retirement System

"The two (2) types of service retirement available are "Unreduced Benefit" and "Reduced Benefit" retirement.

A. Unreduced benefit retirement

  • Members with twenty-seven (27) or more years of active Kentucky service regardless of age may retire with no reduction in benefits.
  • Members with five (5) or more years of active Kentucky service who are at least age sixty (60) may retire with no reduction in benefits.

B. Reduced benefit retirement Members age fifty-five (55) or more but less than age sixty (60) who have five (5) or more years of Kentucky service, but less than twenty-seven (27) years of service, may retire with reduced benefits. The reduction rate is 5% for each year the member's age is less than sixty (60) or 5% for each year the member's Kentucky service is less than twenty-seven (27) years, whichever is the lesser number.

The member's age is considered as the age attained on the first day of the month following the member's date of birth. For ALL service retirements, the properly completed KTRS Retirement Application (F-23) along with the health insurance application must be submitted by the FIRST day of the month BEFORE the month the retirement becomes effective. For example: For a January 1st retirement date, the KTRS Retirement Application (F-23) must be submitted by December 1st. Although KTRS counselors are available to answer questions about effective retirement dates, it is solely the member’s responsibility to select a retirement date that best suits his or her retirement plans

Members who have established membership and maintained active accounts in more than one state-funded retirement system (the Kentucky Employees' Retirement System, the County Employees' Retirement System, the State Police Retirement System, the Legislators' Retirement Plan, the Judicial Retirement System, or the Kentucky Teachers' Retirement System) may determine their eligibility for retirement benefits by combining service credit in all systems."

Regardless of the retirement eligibility situation, no reasonable administrators would leave with only 5 weeks remaining until the first day of school without giving any prior notice without having something else going on "behind the scenes". They know how difficult it is to replace staff members with that short of notice. It could be any number of situations that led to the abruptness of his departure, but it's not the norm by any means.

It was 27 I thought, however I think they just upped it to 30 recently perhaps with grandfathering of the lower for current teachers at the time of change.

That is correct.

If he only has 26 years in the system and if it takes more than that to retire then something is DEFINITELY up!

He may have bought time to make up that 27th year. Or he may have some early years at a state job before becoming a teacher.

Magic numbers every teacher is told when the enter the system: 27 and 55. 27 years of teaching service and you are age 55.

I won't go into details, but let's just say that his "retirement" was not entirely voluntary, but as they say... he made is own bed. His leaving was entirely by his on doing and there is NO conspiracy. It was a settlement of sorts to save embarrassment for many people. Let's call it "Conduct unbecoming a high school administrator/teacher. To be clear, it has nothing to do with Students whatsoever.

I'm guessing Ben is close enough to retirement officially to make it work. He clearly is still finishing up some requirements and was seen this week at State-Sponsored training at Beechwood. So officially, he is probably still employed by the KDE/Beechwood.

Personally, I never liked Ben Z and for me it is good riddance to bad rubbish. He is an arrogant man. I know I'm not alone in that, but I also know that many would disagree. For me, it's about how he treated certain kids/teachers and other administrators. If he liked you, he treated you well. If he didn't, good luck!

I Don't know Bob Noll personally, but he seems to be very well-liked and respected by all of the staff and students. I am especially glad that he won't have the negative influence of Ben Zimmerman. I hope he is given the opportunity. He seems to be a good fit for Beechwood. This is the input I provided to the hiring Committee. I was told that Bob left NCC to get to better position for a State Pension. You can't blame a guy for that. I know a few educators that have had to make that tough decision.

Its Beechwood, would you expect any less?

What reasons would there be to push Ben out and bring Bob Noll in? The fact is Ben was pretty well-liked by Beechwood Power Brokers. The Super, The Board and many of the teachers and the elete money parents. There would be nothing to be gained from Bob Noll for them. Of course, if you ask my opinion, this was upgrade for the entire Beechwood Family.

1. I'm not sure what there is to be a "Jealous hater" about Beechwoods Principal leaving/getting fired/forced to leave/whatever.

2. If so many people supported him, then why is he gone? Most people dont leave placed where they are liked, unless there is good reasons.

1. You obviously dont know me as I am anything but a "little man"

1. I wasn't talking about physical size, duh!

2. Everything that comes out of your keyboard about Beechwood is negative. You even bring BW into discussion threads just to do it. So I wasn't just referencing this one issue. I get it, Beechwood is a Special Place that people like to hate. Athletically, Academically and Community-wide, there is nothing else like it that I am aware of. For some of you, you will never get it or understand it, so you just choose to be a hater. Rather than try defend it, I now choose to accept your hate and use it as a source of GREAT Pride!

3. I answered it above. You can be well-liked and supported by the majority, but fortunately there are still places where if you make mistakes you are still subject to the consequences. I am happy and proud to say that they never overlook inappropriate behavior. No matter who you are or how much you are liked, if you make a bad enough mistake, there will be severe consequences.

So if I follow you the answer to the question is yes Beechwood forced Zimmerman out?

People seem to think he was forced out and the timing would make that assumption plausible. However, there could be some very justifiable reasons. He could have personal issues that he may not want to make public, such as health of he or a family member, received information that he just did not want to deal with anymore, found a different job where he could collect retirement and work another salaried position with an education related business or a business outside of the education arena. With 28 years he can retire at any age, although take a little less pension. He probably can live very comfortably with a pension of 28 years and a principal type of salary for the last few years.

I would not know Mr Zimmerman if he walked into the room where I am sitting now. It is very premature and somewhat disrespectful unless you know the real story. It boggles my mind why people always think the worst without real knowledge.

They don't come any better than Bob Noll. :thumb:

Can we stop beating around the bush? He was caught sleeping with a 5th grade teacher in the parking lot in his/her car is the story that I have been hearing in Fort Mitchell. And we all know Fort Mitchell is stellar for their parent gossip. It is usually pretty reliable. Say it how it is. If he did it, he deserves to be called out on it. Do you know how many kids he suspended/disciplined for "sexting" and inappropriate behavior, and then does this? It's comical!!! I will put the almighty BIG BEN on BLAST 7 days a week.
